Dancing Instruction & Latin Dance Studio

General Info
Welcome to MDN Latin Dance Studio. My name is Marcus Nieves and as a former Eddie Torres dancer we are New Jersey's elite at New York Style Mambo On2. We can assist you in all areas of your Mambo On2 training, whether its beginner level or Advanced! We have it all. Salsa/Mambo is perfect for everyone! It's never too late to start learning. It helps build your confidence and relieves stress. About Instructor Marcus Nieves:Marcus Nieves started dancing in 1998 while out clubbing in one of New Jersey's hot spots at the time, & Foxes;. He was intrigued by the various turn patterns and energy that the local dancers displayed on the dance floor. That sparked his interest in Salsa and he began taking dance lessons with Kenny Lopez. In 1999 Marcus was approached by Luis Zegarra to take part in his dance company & Fuerza Latina. There he gained most of his experience as a salsero, performing in many events around the tri-state area, which provided him the exposure he needed to be recognized in the dance scene. In 2000, Marcus began dancing under Nelson Flores and his dance team Descarga Latina which opened the opportunity for him to take part in the off-Broadway show; Latin MadnessIn late 2002 Marcus worked on the Copa Boys; for the world famous Copacabana and in 2003 he fulfilled his dancing goal of becoming a member of the Eddie Torres Dance Company for which he danced and toured around the world. He then joined several of his old dance mates from the ET dancers in a collaboration team called Latin Soul Dancers which he performed with all of 2007. Today he is also the dance instructor at his own MDN Latin Dance Studio in New Jersey.

I am taking private lessons with Marcus and I am very happy with my progress!

Excellent instructor. Clear communication and attentiveness. Comfortable yet challenging learning curve. Liked a lot the idea of recording the moves for home review!

This is by far the best Dance studio I have been to and I have attended classes in both New York and New Jersey. The level of instruction, energy, consistency and professionalism is unparalleled. The studio space is one of the largest and extremely well kept. Parking lot is very convenient. The welcoming atmosphere makes it easy to walk in as a beginner and impossible to leave once you are hooked!

MDN Latin Dance Studio is the best place to learn salsa in NJ, hands down. Besides being conveniently located by Rt. 21, 3 and 7 there is also plenty of parking. At this studio not only have i learned how to dance but I have also made friends that I now consider family. The instructors Marcus and Diana really have their students' best interest at heart and it is a treat to learn from them. Marcus pushes his students to be the very best they can so be prepared to work. You will not be disappointed by this experience. This place will absolutely change your life, I guarantee it.

When I joined MDN I did it as ...

When I joined MDN I did it as a way to keep myself busy and work out and I got just that! It is a fun environment and I had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people. I enjoy the classes because I am constantly challenged. Not going to lie, sometimes I am lost with some of the foot work but mostly is due to me not being mentally focused or having missed class. Overall I recommend the studio, is a nice cardio work out and there are tons of opportunities to showcase your newly learned moves at many of their studio sponsored activities. Just with everything you will get out of it what you put into it, if you only want to become a nice social dancer with some dedication and a few months you will get that, if you want to be a great dancer/performer you will of course need more. I say give it a try, if it is not for you then find another place. But it is worth a try for sure, I tried it a year ago...still there :)

I have no hesitation in saying that MDN is the BEST Latin Dance Studio in the tri-state! Its not even close. If there's any fault that I could find is that there's only 1! Marcus, Diana, and the entire team are very professional, personable, and create an enviroment that's awesome for dancers of all levels. From the true novice to the true professional and everybody in between, just try them. You won't be sorry!

3 years ago, I knew nothing ab...

3 years ago, I knew nothing about salsa. I couldn't even dance "old school" style like most Hispanics usually can (much to my mother's horror). I came to MDN Latin Dance Studio on the pretense that I'd take a few classes so I could enjoy a salsa here and there at the club with my friends and that would be that. Yea right....

The morning after my FIRST salsa class, I woke up singing 123,567! I knew something had changed, I was hooked. When I started the beginner's cycle, I was in grad school so I was only able to make it twice a week. Remarkably, I was able to keep up. Marcus has a unique ability to speak to people in a way that makes them completely understand how to move and how to listen to the music. He designs his courses so that you can learn from scratch and evolve into an experienced salsa dancer. He's not bad to look at either! I know all the girls wanna know LOL ;) I have tried other studios, other instructors and I haven't found anything else that compares. I HIGHLY recommend this studio to anyone who wants to learn how to dance.

Today, my life is completely different. Not only can I dance, but I also teach and perform. I have lost 55 POUNDS! 55 POUNDS people!!!! It's crazy. That wasn't even my goal or my purpose. IT WAS JUST A BONUS. I have met hundreds of wonderful people at the studio. Some of those people have become like a 2nd family to me. I am completely and forever changed :) If you want to learn from the best, look no further. All you have to do is show up, Marcus will show you the rest .... It will change your life, TRUST ME.

Things you should know about MDN Latin Dance Studio in a nutshell:

Bottom line up front - there i...

Bottom line up front - there is no better Latin Dance Studio that even comes close to MDN Latin Dance Studio in the entire state of New Jersey - and Marcus Nieves and Diana Osorio are extraordinary people and they are magnificent instructors.

MDN Latin Dance Studio is located next to Rte-21 on Main Street in Belleville, NJ.

Classes are top notch at only $15 a class - you will not find better instruction for that same price. I have been to every salsa dance studio in Northern and Central NJ, and they don't even come close. Trust me.

Marcus is the only "Eddie Torres" certified NJ instructor! That alone says it all.

Diana is amazing and is a complete natural on the dance floor and is an even better at teaching the ladies of the studio what they should be doing.

There is no instructor in this entire area except for the Mambo King himself that can match Marcus' footwork skills and creative partnerwork combinations. His passion for teaching and dedication to his students supersedes all expectations - you will be challenged every step of the way - regardless of your skill level.

They are both completely dedicated to making their students the best that they can be. I have been going for just over one year and they have both pushed me to become so much better in that short time period.

Be ready for a challenge - but they both make salsa fun and easy to learn. It will change your life - for the better - and it is also a great work out. Dress comfortably and see you at MDN Latin Dance Studio - the best studio in the entire state of NJ!

MDN Latin Dance Studio represe...

MDN Latin Dance Studio represents one of the best Salsa On 2 instructional programs the world has to offer. From a non-partial critical perspecive through extensive travels, research and experience, I have discovered something tried, proven and definite. The MDN Latin Dance Studio Progam Works! There Is Absolutely No Doubt About It!

Marcus Nieves provides a comprehensive step by step curriculum that can be followed by any and all who are willing to learn. Repetition builds skill, so you must practice what you learn in order to increasingly become better. That is why children receive homework in school, to exercise what is learned in class in order for the teacher to move on to the next topic to add additional tools to the skill set. Being a good student means practicing what you learn.

Marcus Nieves is a motivator and a man of integrity. He cares about each and every student that he instructs and gives his entire heart to see them all excell. He takes pride in seeing them shine and do well, I should know, I am one of them. I have referred many beautiful women friends of mine to MDN Latin Dance Studio and have never once heard any of the ridiculousness expressed in other reviews debasing the character of Marcus Nieves. Absurd to say the least.

I am a pulitzer prize nominated author of three novels and writer of three films, one which was inspired by Marcus Nieves himself (Mambo 2 Mambo) www.mambo2mambo.com. He deserves all the success and greatness that his spirit attracts to his circumference and not only is he a good man, he helps to make all of our lives a little better through the gift of dance. I studied with him for a little over a year before taking a year off with no dance to complete another novel. When I finally returned to the dance floor I thought that I wouldn't remember anything that I learned, but I could hear his voice in my head reflecting "Do it again, Do it Again, Do it again, Muscle Memory, If You Do It Enough Your Body Will Remember And If You Don't Want It, It Don't Want You" and he was right, when the music played, I was on automatic pilot. Smooth and Wow I really am a Salsero! Thanks Marcus ! You Rock !!!!!!!

MDN Latin Studio located in Be...

MDN Latin Studio located in Belleville, NJ offers on2 Mambo classes taught by Marcus Nieves for beginner, advanced beginner and intermediate levels. Marcus has created a very well structured class with enough intensity to get everyone dancing and enjoying themselves, while learning proper technique, partner work, timing and shines. His passion for teaching and dedication to his students supersedes all expectations.

Marcus’ passion is to share his talents with new students and audiences throughout New Jersey. He has a gift for teaching with a high level of precision and technical ability along with an incredible ability to perform. He holds the only Eddie Torres On2 Certification in New Jersey.

If you are definately looking for a place to actually learn On2 Mambo this is the place to come to in New Jersey.

You will not need a dance partner, since the classes are designed to "rotate" partners and he gives you enough time to practice with everyone. He breaks down all the steps and will make you go over every step until you can completely perform it.

Very proffessional, fun & exciting. It is the best place to come and learn in New Jersey.

Overall
I joined MDN Latin Dance Studi...

I joined MDN Latin Dance Studio a little over 2 years ago, and in that short amount of time, I have learned so much about the foundations of salsa dancing on 2. I still remember my first day, never a dance class in my life, taking my position on the front line of the group class. I was so intimidated but once Marcus Nieves (instructor extraordinaire) took the floor, he quickly relieved everyone's tension as he broke down the basic step (1-2-3, 5-6-7 Short, long, in place)!

I've frequented other schools, and in my opinion, while many of the instructors out there may be amazing dancers, they lack in their ability to break down the shines and partner work. There are a lot of dancers out there, but teaching requires a whole different set of skills. Marcus was previously an Eddie Torres dancer, who as many may know, really pioneered the salsa on 2 movement. As a result, Marcus is one of the few certified instructors of the Eddie Torres technique.

Classes require no contracts, no registration fees, and you can pay as you go. You can even save some money by paying the month in advance. All classes are 1.5 hours with a 5 minute break and meet 3x a week. There are different levels (beginner, advanced beginner, and intermediate). The classes are high energy and fun. Don't come dressed to impress... TRUST ME, you will SWEAT. I have lost 20 pounds in 2 years since I've joined the studio! The group classes can get somewhat large, so for those who find themselves a little lost or want some further polishing, private classes can be arranged with either Marcus or his dance partner Diana Osorio (also amazing!).

Marcus has affiliated himself with Euro Lounge, and promotes there on Tuesdays (Mambo-Land) and usually teaches a turn pattern class for only $5. There are performances there every week! Also, there are monthly socials in Harrison NJ and the occasional pracitce party at the studio.

He strongly encourages his students to get out there and dance! Nothing makes him more proud than one of his students RIPPING it on the dance floor. He doesn't hold back anything, watch him carefully, he'll teach some of his routine moves in class. Marcus is passionate about what he does, and he wants you to be equally as passionate about it. He will push you to become your absolute best.

Overall
i first learned to dance salsa...

i first learned to dance salsa here and for the first year it was fun and iearned alot thanks to the assistant teacher at the time Manny. Marcus style of pointing and fast pace teaching didn't work for me since i learn at a slower pace and appreciate when things are explained to me. I noticed that when you loose your way, Marcus Nieves lost patience and could be somewhat crude and condecending. If you are a fast learner and you enjoy little instruction, this is the place for you.

The class itself is at a great location and i got the opportunity to meet a lot of great people who took the time to show me what i couldn't grasp. You learn shines and partner work. IF you're not looking to be a professional dancer, the best classes are upto advance beginner. Also, warning a lot of drama tends to develop here, so pretty single girls keep your focus on dancing and stay away from the instructor.
