I get my dog Bella groomed at the grooming salon at Petsmart and let me just say they have some of the best groomers around the area! They're all so knowledgeable and obviously love their jobs! She is always so excited to go for her spa day and always come back perfect. Thank you Richmond PetsMart!!!!

Overall

Not only does their phone service not work to get an appointment....no-one answering phones, with a distorted message that you can't begin to comprehend. I had to drive 26 miles to get to the store just to make an appointment for my dogs grooming, and to top if off....these people are rude and hateful just at the fact someone had to disrupt such an easy job of doing nothing. I'm filing a complaint with the corporate office on the rudeness of it's employees here.

I probably will never buy anyt...

I probably will never buy anything from this petsmart again. I had to buy 50 pounds of aquarium gravel from them, because my usual pet shop was closed. The employees were rude, especially considering my mother and I were not just looking but actually BUYING a substantial amount of product and considering returning to buy fish from them later. For 50 pounds of gravel, of course we needed a shopping cart, which we parked alongside an isle out of the way so others could get through, while we looked at fish. I was pointing out certain kinds to my mother, informing her about which kinds could go together in a 55 gallon setup because she is entirely new to fishkeeping. Meanwhile, an employee walked up and asked not us, but the other employee working at the small animal/fish station if she wanted her to move the shopping cart, because it was "in the way". Keep in mind there was NO ONE in the fish department aside from my mother and I. When my mother apologized and said that it was our cart, the employee proceeded to ignore her and walk away, at which point I said it was time to go and made it clear that we would not be returning.

The employees present that day seemed to know a bit about the animals they were handling, but I have been there on previous occasions where those working in the small animal and fish department really had no idea what they were doing and could give no proper advice on care for the pets customers were purchasing. You should always do research before buying a pet, because even in small local pet shops, no store owner can know everything about every single animal in their shop (because they may not have personally owned them in the past). However, they should be equipped with some basic knowledge for the sake of customers, or be able to tell them where to find further info.

I have also been present on a pet adoption day when they were selling mini-pinschers and german pinschers. As an owner with a small dog passed by on their way to pet supplies, all of the numerous dogs jumped up in their cages barking and growling, and the employees assured people standing around them that it was just because they wanted to be out and “play” with the other dog, when the actions of the dogs were clear signs of aggression. And don’t get me wrong, I have rescued and owned dogs in the past that showed signs of slight aggressiveness, it can be controlled and trained through, but unsuspecting buyers should be warned of this, as it probably would not be the best kind of dog to bring in a house with children or other small pets.

Overall, the service here his horrible. I would highly recommend doing research before you buy any pet, and supporting your local pet shop if at all possible.
