I've been going to Aqua hut since I'm 8 years old. I'm now 48. Don and his staff are some of the most knowledgeable and helpful in the industry. fish are healthy and Don gets a wide variety of different types of fish from both the USA and Malaysia and Singapore. prices are the best of any aquarium and he gives additional discounts for 3 or more of the same fish. He will even get in hard to find fish if you ask him. THE BEST AQUARIUM ON LONG ISLAND PERIOD! To the other reviews complaining that they got sick fish or got home to discover a lobster missing a led or two or a fish with part of its tail missing, all i can say is you have to examine the fish closey before you buy. that's just common sense. as far as disease, EVERY aquarium will get in sick fish from time to time. it's unavoidable. sometimes the fish may be coming down with something but don't show signs of it for days. understand, fish are shipped in overcrowded bags on planes and trucks. they are stacked and moved and are subject to to temperature changes even though they are in insulated boxes. they are also stressed out from the journey and if there are ever shipping delays, the ammonia levels in the bags can build up which further stresses out the fish. it's unavoidable. typically stressed fish have their immune systems suppressed until they are in a new tank, calm down and adjust. a suppressed immune system gives parasites and disease and opportunity to take hold and spread. Aqua hut keeps their water pristine as they are constantly doing water changes and maintain a constant water temperature. perfect water conditions are crucial for the fish to quickly adjust and regain their immune system to optimal levels. Don and his team take every step to insure healthy fish. do fish occasionally get sick even with all that care? yes, it's unavoidable in a retail situation where fish come in and go right out again. This is where again, common sense comes in.

STAY AWAY FROM AQUA HUT!!! Richie sold me 4 young African Cichlid Peacock fish who had ick disease and they transferred the parasitic disease killing off my entire tank of my 4 beautiful adult African Cichlid Peacocks and 1 adult Butterfly Pleco. The 4 young fish I bought did not display any signs of disease, but the others in Richie's tank did. I never saw ick before in fish, and he taught me what it looks like by showing it to me in his other fish. He even said to me while pointing to some of the other 75+ fish in the same tank: "I won't give you those because they have the ick spots". I just read online that ick is a highly contagious disease, and fish can carry it even though they don't display visual signs of it (the 4 I bought from him). There has not been any PH, temperature, or nitrate/nirtrite change in my tank at all, so that cannot be the cause. I even medicated the tank with ick medication early on as soon as I noticed the many tiny dots all over my adult's bodies, but they still died before the medication's cycle of 3 days had finished. Painful lesson learned. That's the last time I ever buy healthy-looking fish when others in the same tank carry ick disease. And that's something they, a fish store who has been in business since the 70's, should've known to do - to treat fish containing the ick parasite with medication before they sell them to the public and infect everyone else's tanks causing many painful deaths! So sad to watch all of my beautiful adults die...

no problems

The fish are cheap and if you been hobby and know what you doing this place is great. I laugh at some of these reviews some saying that they put too many fish in a tank. well then I keeping the fish they're selling them and you show me 1 pet stores over stock their tanks to increase a selection all pet stores do this. and as for damage to a fish a person in the hobby knows the first thing you do is check on health condition of the fish before you purchase it. the guy is praising country critters. well that fish 2 are overstocked, way overpriced compared to many pet stores I've been to NS all water that was that just last week most of it is probably 90 percent of their fish had ich on them. basically look at the fish the quality of the fish before you buy it what is common sense of anybody who spent a lot of money on the aquarium

Overall
Great store, great prices.

I went in one night when they were closing (they had left the door unlocked). Anywho, even though the register had been settled for the night the owner still helped me out with what I needed and let me purchase it. He gave great advice & knew exactly what I was talking about with everything. Not to mention, AquaHut has the best prices on aquatic's I've seen (including Petco!)
