Midway Tropical Fish & Pets

This shop (focused on aquatics) is a very un-common place to really find a broad spectrum of fish to choose from. I have searched high and low throughout the Seattle-Tacoma-Everett area to find an aquarium shop that carries the really hard to find fish. This is the only place I've ever seen what I was after for sale in person. (Peacock Bass) The tanks, bird cages, etc. all are well kept, and the store smells like any aquarium shop does. The staff has only ever been very polite, helpful, and knowledgeable, every time! I come all the way from North Bend on a regular basis to this shop.

I stopped by a couple of weeks ago to look around. Someone in the store asked me if I needed help, and I said I was just looking. Today I went to buy. One of the men told me to let him know if I needed any help. I had a few questions, and he answered all of them. I am brand new to caring for fish. I told him about some of the mistakes I made, and He wasn't condescending which I appreciated. The have some of the coolest fish including jellyfish and all kinds of living plants. There are rows and rows of tanks, and all the water seemed clean and clear. I was very impressed. It was not a super clean place, but I didn't feel it needed to be if all of the creatures are well cared for. They all seemed to be. From now on I will most likely drive the extra 10 miles to go to this place. I really liked it.

This place is creepy and smelly. Think twice before you make a purchase. Cheap prices...??? Yeah!!! Your fishes may end up in the trash.

Midway Pet Is a very old store and has been around for over 40 years.I was a former employee and trained by the best in the industry Ralph C.I was one of the original employees I worked there for 16 years from 1974 to1995 and because of Midway I went on to own 3 pet stores worked wholesale for 5 years and a service business that I own today in Spokane.Please be thank full that you have a store like Midway in your area what ever it looks like or smell like.Midway was in business in 1969 long before there was ever was a Pet-Co or Petsmart. I now live in Spokane and if you have ever been here and seen the kind of pet stores here you would say I cant wait to get back to a real store and talk to some one that knows at least something about pets and fish.Spokane is one of many cities in the country that have lost there independent stores Spokane has nothing but hobbyist owned stores besides the major pet stores no professionals own stores in Spokane the 2nd largest city in the state.Seattle has a great history of independents and Midway is one of them so keep in mind that store has been there for over 40 years and has many people that built it from the ground.Please keep in mind a store like that will help you more than any large store ever will with profits being the bottom line.So before you talk bad about Midway keep in mind the alternative is corporation stores and to me that is not a fair trade.If you don't think so just call some stores here in Spokane and ask some questions and ask them and then call Midway, and that will make you a believer in small business.

I have been going to Midway Tropical for over 30 years and it is the best, I have tried other places and always go back to Midway Tropical. Sure it smells of fish and pets but so do zoos, it is crowed and small because they carry almost everything you want or need at a reasonable price. They will help you with anything you need and give professional advice. Try other places and I guarantee you will go back to Midway Tropical. This place is a gem from all the big national chain box stores, lets keep it around for ever.

i have been going here for the last 7 years! it has everything! i have had fish, rats, birds,cats ,mice, and snakes and everything that goes along with the pets i have/had. one thing i will say it that the people know what they are talking about!!! but some times it gets a bit cramped in that little and hot! but its werth it! and the prices are fair!!! over all love the store and highly recomend this place!!!:)

I cannot understand how anyone could regularly shop here. If you love animals you should shop going here and allow this business to run into the ground. I decided to go here while having time to kill waiting for my class to start, as soon as I walked into the door there was an overwhelming stench of fecal matter. As I walked around everything seemed dirty and there was a cage overfilled with birds, which were fighting to find a spot to sit in their cage (let alone fly). In the back there are rows and rows for aquariums that all look like they are in desperate need of cleaning. I still decided to look for what I came for (dog training treats) and after searching through items scattered throughout the store I found some; I noticed that the price tag was in a strange spot and I pulled it up to find the expiration date (over a year past)... a few other items I checked were also expired so I left. I was very grateful to get back outside where I have fresh air and can try to shake the putrid

I absolutely love this store! All of the reviews I've read make it sound so terrible, but it sounds to me like people getting mad because their tanks crashed. That can happen when introducing new fish from ANYWHERE!!! I personally enjoy being there and seeing all the cool animals they stock. They will order anything you need in (it might take a while to get in) and do free water tests so they aren't putting good fish into a sick tank (which is what petsmart / petco are famous for) Also, the staff is very knowledgeable. They get busy, so be patient. It's worth the wait.

I've shopped there before a couple times out of geographical necessity, even now I won't do that. I would never even feed one of their furries to my snake. To put it bluntly, I don't want to inhabit the place for the ten minutes I need to be in there. I feel as if I walked out with some kind of disease every time I went in. The only reason I would ever shop there again would be if I won the lottery... so I could buy the shop itself and save the poor animals! Of coarse if I won the mega millions it would probably take the whole thing considering their prices. I don't know how they've stayed in business as long as they have. I've lived here since 79' as far as I know they've been here that long. I have more imaginative things to say concerning how they stay in business than I can say here without being sued for slander. I think the aspca should be called by anyone whom agrees with me.

My husband and I went up to Midway yesterday purchased 4 Cichlids, we had 11 to begin with, got home put the bags in our 55gal tank so the new ones would adapt to the water. Later, fished them out of the bags and put them in the water. This morning, one of the NEW ones had died, and 4 of my orginal fish also died. Went up to Midway to let show them the dead fish with some of our tank water and our Nitrite level was in danger, we figured it was an ammonia problem. Changed the water, cleaned the tank, as we were cleaning another fish died. The manager was so unhelpful and blamed us for the problem when strictly the New Cichlid that I found dead this morning happened to be the new one from last night. UMMMM....In the customer service world the customer is always right. They have horrible customer service, and the manager is a douche bag and doesn't know what he is talking about. How is that for a review!

you should add pics. of the birds and some other iteams. main thing is pics. to show whats for sale inside and how they pets look

The people working there had alot of information. I would be back more!!!
