- Providing a sacred and safe place for burial and ministering to the families of the deceased has been a tradition at Old Mission Santa Barbara for more than 200 years. The cemetery of Mission Santa Barbara, adjacent to the old mission church, has been a burial place for over two centuries for many Chumash natives and members of prominent families who settled in Santa Barbara. In this historic and venerable cemetery, rooted in the Catholic Franciscan tradition of hospitality and welcome, families and friends of the deceased have found a peaceful and reverent environment for keeping the memories of their loved ones alive.
