General Info
Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, nestled in the heart of Old Town Key West, this unique property was home to one of America's most honored and respected authors. Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote here for more than ten years. Calling Key West home, he found solace and great physical challenge in the turquoise waters that surround this tiny island. The house was built in 1851 by Asa Tift, a marine architect and salvage wrecker, and became Ernest Hemingway's home in 1931. The house still contains the furniture that he and his family used. The cats about the home and grounds are descendants of the cats he kept while he lived in the house, including many extra-toed (polydactyls), like the one Papa Hemingway loved.

This is a must see in Key West for every visitor. Fans of this celebrated author, who was very much at home in this eclectic town, will want to hear the details of his life from the well informed tour guides, from the best of the good times, to the tragic end. There is something here for anyone, even if they never read a word he wrote. The architecture of this Key West style house is a delight to see, filled with his personal choice of artwork and memorabilia, as well as the descendants of his famous six-toed cats, who are everywhere and will surely delight the children. If you never read any of his works, you will be anxious to do so after this tour.
