Yesterday we took our almost-3-yr-old to Monkey Joe's along with his cousin. As my son is very young, either I or his grandmother went on all of the inflatables with him, spotting him as he climbed up to the slides, and making sure one of us was there at the bottom when he slid down. On one of the inflatables, there was a tunnel you could crawl into once at the top ready to go down the slide that I didn't know was there. After spotting my son as he climbed up the inflatable ladder to go down the slide, I saw him follow an older boy into this tunnel. I tried to get to wherever this tunnel would lead, but within seconds I heard the most awful scream come from my little boy. I crawled through and got to him and saw that the tunnel led to the top of a climbing wall which he fell down. We took him to the ER where we learned his tibia is broken. I know Monkey Joe's makes it clear they are free from liability and that it was my decision to allow my son to play there, but I want other parents of very young children to know that no matter how closely you supervise your child accidents can happen on equipment like this and my poor toddler is now going to have to spend the holidays in a full leg cast. I'm sure we are not the majority, but please think twice about taking young children to this facility.

Overall

In February 2013, I went to Monkey Joe's in Lexington for the first time. I was impressed with everything Monkey Joe's had to offer, and it was a great place for the three kids I brought. Last week, I wanted to take a 4-year old to Monkey Joe's. I was hesitant about bringing my 15-month old daughter, because I knew there wasn't much there for infants or toddlers. I brought her, but figured we wouldn't stay long. When I arrived, I discovered that Monkey Joe's had a new area for children under the age of 3. I thought this was great, and even brought my daughter back another day before returning to New York. However, both days I experienced some frustration. I was very excited that there was a section for infants and toddlers, but there was little regulation of the area. Older children continuously were in and out of this section not meant for them, and were not there with younger children. I do not like to be a negative parent, but my daughter was almost hit by an older child in the toddler area. So, I said something to some of the employees. When I asked about the management of the area the second time I visited Monkey Joe's, I was told that there were a lot of people working on the floor and that someone would be managing the section designated for children under 3. This was not the case, and this time there were even more school-age children in the area. Even parents were allowing their older children to play there. A set of parents had their child huddled in the corner playing so that she wasn't around the rowdy kids jumping on the merry-go-round. Again, I said something. Someone eventually came to supervise the area. There were about 10 people working, and a few were overlooking the same bounce house. It is frustrating to have to be the one to say something. Plus, there are no signs saying you can't bring in outside food and drink. I brought in water, crackers and a clementine for my daughter and the young boy I brought. They do not sell any fruit. I gave this fruit along with food that I purchased from Monkey Joe's. Two employees were very unprofessional in their reaction to me bringing in outside food and drink. I asked someone behind the counter if outside food and drink are allowed in, and she said no. I threw out the crackers, but kept my water and the fruit. If outside food and drink is not allowed, then a sign needs to be posted. The young ladies at the door should have been professional and told me in a kind manner that outside food and drink were not allowed, instead of making inappropriate comments. Plus, healthier options need to be offered if food cannot be brought in. I know parents that would not let their children eat any of the food that is on the menu at Monkey Joe's. It is a great place for children who are 4 and older. There is a lot for them to do. They have many bounce houses to go on. Monkey Joe's was a great place for the 4-year old I brought. The place is clean, there is a section for parents to sit and watch television, they have four private rooms for birthday parties, the majority of the employees are a pleasure to interact with, the price to get in is decent, there is an arcade and there is always parking available. There are many tables for people to sit and eat, and the parents and children are usually very pleasant.
