- Boasting an impresive collection, the Fort de Buade museum houses items spanning more than 17,000 years, including Native Amerian artifacts, Colt firearems, and the enigmatic Newberry Stones. Every history buff will find something to pique their interest. Located within the museum is the McKenney & Hall Gallery, a stunning showcase featuring digtal imiages of Native American dignitaries from the early 1800s who visited Washington D.C. The oil portraits were destroyed by fire in 1865, but thanks to the foresight of Thomas McKenney, head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs at that time, lithographs had been created and preserved the images for the future. The complete set of copies of 120 portraits hang in the gallery. Admission to museum is by donation. Visit our webpage for current events and hours of operation and current .
