Frank's is the place to go to get started in the saltwater world. Everyone will sell you a fish, but Frank's tanks help you build an ecosystem that will substance your valuable fish and coral for years. I started the hobby a year ago and with Frank and Bo’s help I have not lost any coral (SPS or LPS). It is a great place to visit and see what goes on behind the tanks – maintenance & upkeep.

Overall

I went in there yesterday-8/4/15 I have 15yrs fresh water experience and 0 yrs salt. He took the time to educate me on both fish and the " real" start up cost. I am going to do business with him because he didn't try to sell me something that I didn't need.

If you want a reputable LFS that will go above and beyond to keep corals & customers alike happy, then check out Franks! Frank is extremely knowledgeable, can answer all of your questions from simple to complex, & loves what he does. Just look at his immaculate tanks and livestock & see for yourself. He also recently opened up a bigger shop that is 2x the sixe of his old location. If I still lived in Ft. Worth I would go there much more often. The last time I was there he was treating the tiniest of pest aiptasia anemones on some of his frags. This guy really cares not to sell you anything that he wouldnt put in his own tank. Hes also previously helped my with plumbing on an aquarium. Support LFS that stand out like Franks. He has excellent frags & livestock that I will make the trip to see.

I took a trip to Fort Worth and stopped by Frank's Tanks, I was blown away the tanks were so clean and so much merchandise to choose from. Any way I bought a mag 7 pump, Octopus skimmer and some other things. He did not have the skimmer in stock but he had one of his guys bring one from Arlington for me. Frank had a lot of information for me a new saltwater enthusiast. Thanks Frank and all your guys help to. I will definitely take another trip there soon.

changes the prices

I was in there and he told me one price and then I had my friend go in to look at how to make one of the things he had in there. He gave me one price and then gave my friend a way cheaper price. I think that is wrong. I will say his place is clean and does look nice.

While I'd always said that I would NEVER respond to a review either good or bad, I felt it necessary to respond to this one. I change prices all the time on corals/fish....depends on the distributor that I get them from and how much they cost before I determine the price. A blue tang today may have a slightly different cost next week if I got them from somewhere that my cost was greater. If it costs me less, I try and pass that cost on to the customer when I can. If the overall cost of a blue tang increases, I am likely to sell the fish at the newer replacement cost. In some cases, I have dropped the price of a fish/coral in the same day for various reasons......a fish/coral has been in the store too long and I finally determined a price that someone would be more likely to purchase it for. If I have too many of an item, I may initially try and sell for it's regular price then later determine a price that would allow me to move those items to make room for other things that I don't have many of. Things like that are what determines my pricing from day to day. My prices are in my computer.....I don't always quote the correct price. That has also worked against me as i've ALWAYS honored a quoted price even after I'd gotten to my computer and discovered that my verbal quote was less than what I had it in the computer for. I saw this post for the first time on 19May2011....4 months after the original writing. I'd never had an opportunity to address it with the writer because they never made an attempt to contact me and deal directly with me regarding the issue. Even as a store owner, I don't know the individual price of everything in the store without looking some of them up in the store's computer. I quote prices on bread and butter items that generally sell each and every day. I have given to those who couldn't afford and reduced pricing for others who frequent the store...much like many other businesses. If this wasn't the case, you might consider what you experienced a simple mistake. Another example: I purchased a coral from a wholesaler...it was $39.99. I sold it quickly and 2 days later, I went to buy more of the same. It was $59 this time and in less than a week, that same coral was $89.00. These corals and fished are shipped from every part of the globe...many from countries and from people who have far less expendable income than most of us in the USA. The divers are underpaid for their risks but they monitor the prices of so many of the corals and fish that we sell here. If a diver collects a coral that he sells into distribution for $10 and he sees it selling online for $300 ( a very typical situation ), he learns the value of his product. Now the $10 coral costs $200. In closing my book, Shelby, I have no reason to beat you up with the price of anything in my store that I would sell for WAY less to anyone else. I do work for very prominent people. Unless we deliver to them, their cost is exactly what your cost would be. When you step into my store, you are MY customer. I want you to do repeat business and mistreated customers don't do repeat business with those who've mistreated them. I know that I don't! Without evening knowing about this until now, I have set up some new tanks in the store where corals are in price specific locations....should reduce the possibility of what happened to you from happening again!
