- In 1967 the Nolan County Historical Society was collecting artifacts in the old Johnson Funeral Home and was open two afternoons a week to the public. In 1970 the Old Safeway building was purchased for the purpose of the museum and was housed here for about 5 years. In 1975 Robert A. Ragland, grandson of Judge R.A. and Mrs. Ragland donated the Ragland House to Nolan County and the City of Sweetwater. The house was restored and opened to the public as the Pioneer Museum in a dedication ceremony that also celebrated our nation's Bi-Centennial on July 4, 1976. The house was awarded the Official Historical Medallion, Texas Historical Commission in 1979.
