Allerton Garden features a collection of exotic plants and trees. It offers a range of plants in the order Zingiberales, which includes Heliconia Costus, Calathea and Etlingera. The garden also includes different species of native and exotic palms, such as Corypha, Raphia and Licuala. Allerton Garden organizes nature day camps and conducts the The Garden As Classroom (GAC) Program, which provides educational opportunities for school children to study tropical plants. It offers the Junior Restoration Team program for middle and high school. The garden also participates in various ecological restoration projects. Allerton Garden is a part of National Tropical Botanical Garden, which operates a network of gardens and preserves in Hawaii and Florida.
