General Info
In 2011, Mercyhurst University announced the formation of the Institute for Arts & Culture, which oversees the arts programming accomplished by the Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center and other venues on campus. The Institute manages the planning and execution of artistic and cultural events on campus in coordination with faculty and students. Overarching to these activities is the desire to develop future patrons of the arts among Mercyhurst students and the greater Erie community through new initiatives and cross collaborations. The $3.6 million Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center was dedicated on April 20, 1996, to George and Mary D'Angelo, two of Mercyhurst's biggest benefactors and advocates of the arts. The venue has hosted more than 100 famous musicians, dancers, puppeteers, choirs and performance artists. It is nicknamed the "Miniature Met of Erie." Its famous chandeliers are designed to match the chandeliers in The Metropolitan Opera. They were made in Austria from pure crystal. In 2011, Mercyhurst University announced the formation of the Institute for Arts & Culture, which oversees the arts programming accomplished by the Mary D'Angelo Performing Arts Center and other venues on campus.
