General Info
Held every June 11th, in observation of Kamehameha Day, the King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade sets off from Iolani Palace. On its route to Kapiolani Park, it fulfils a century-long tradition of paying homage to the legacy of the great King, part of Hawaii's lauded history, and a member of its once-monarchy. Floats decked out in hundreds of flowers take to the streets alongside decorated vehicles, and marchers wear traditional dress from the bygone days of the King, featuring wild floral decorations and impressive warrior's paint. Hula dancers and horseback riders add to the glamour of the event, whose main feature is the royal pa'u procession: led by the "queen" on horseback, eight extravagantly-dressed princesses are decked out in heritage flowers, representing the islands of Hawaii and Molokini. Food and live music help to bring the festivities to life for those in the crowd.
