I wanted to sign up my two kids. My 3 year old is handicapped and I asked that she was put in a younger toddler class because the ratio of a 3 year old class is 6 - 1 and the ratio of toddler is 1 - 1+ teacher. Also a 3 year old circuit is too advanced for her. They said "because of how it would LOOK to other parents to mix the ages". There is NO little gym policy that wouldn't allow the accommodation and I didn't ask for her not to pay, just to be put into a class that was safe and developmentally appropriate. Other gyms have done it and my daughter is not medically fragile and imposes no risk to herself or others (she can not walk unassisted, it's not like she's a tank). When I told them that if they didn't want us there, we didn't want to be there, they offered to have us come in for some kind of "preview" class before classes start and I'd get a call to schedule that. Classes start on Monday. I haven't gotten a phone call yet. If they're this shady when dealing with a handicapped 3 year old... good luck!
** Response to their addition here. First the "multiple options" they offered was not multiple at all. I could come in to look at the equipment but the only option given to us was that she be put in a class of other 3 year olds, which is STILL not an option for her. She is not physically able to do what 3 year olds do and the class would be far above her abilities. Even with my help, the 3 year old skills that they "teach" are not an option for her. Toddler class is a COMPLETELY different class (and at my daughters abilities) but we are not allowed to utilize that because of their enforcement of policies that the main office says (yes, I've called) they don't have. The only phone call I ever received was after the classes were to already begin (showing their amount of interest in my child) and they were not helpful or even nice on the phone. I've taken my daughter to SKIES unlimited gymnastics classes on post and they are WONDERFUL and less expensive. It's easy to look like you care on here, but my experience with them was not one that I'd ever send my kid to and our friends that we've shared our story with have also sent their kids to the SKIES classes so as not to deal with the people who would write off my daughter.
Hi Alycia. We wanted to take the opportunity to maybe clarify some things. We do apologize that you haven't received a phone call sooner but please don't think you have been forgotten. As you probably have seen on our posts, our opening was delayed due to construction issues. That also means we had a delay in getting our equipment ready and we want to be sure our equipment is completely ready and safe before we have guests and members in it. We never said we didn't want you or your children. The goal of our program is to grow skills and help children develop at their own pace. Working with a child with special needs definitely doesn’t change our goal for them; it just means we may have to make some modifications to reach those goals. As we discussed in our previous phone conversation, we would love to provide you with a couple of options. You are welcome to bring her to a class of her age and accompany her in the class. Also, you may bring her for a private meet and greet session where we can meet her and let you both familiarize yourself with the facility and equipment. This will allow us time to get to know her and see how The Little Gym and help grow her skills. We value our members and guests and strive to provide excellent service in a safe and fun environment. I see this as an opportunity for a win/win situation. You are obviously interested in what The Little Gym can offer. We are obviously interested in doing what we can to provide you a great experience full of learning, growing skills, and just plain fun! Please contact us to set up a time to meet and see how we can best meet your needs. Have a great day and we look forward to hearing from you.
