Calista animal hospital is the best veterinary clinic in the whole world! They are very sweet and caring, and they fixed up my baby so amazingly and and treated her so tenderly and with care, they handled everything better than I could ever Imagine. They are even open on Saturdays, which was a life saver because the only other vet was the emergency clinic I'm town and they treated me poorly and did not help me. Calista deserves 5 stars, they even worked with my budget knowing I am a college student living alone and my canine is my whole world ♥ I rest easy now with their help and I will never take my canine companion anywhere else. Even if it's for a simple check up go to Calista! Their clinic is so clean, so professional and their staff is genuine, lovely and truly cares. Doesn't get any better.

Losing a pet is heart wrenching. In my time in Las Cruces, I lost my childhood pet from kidney failure and my beloved best friend from cancer. Both experiences with Calista Animal Hospital were handled tenderly and compassionately. The conversations with staff, doctors and surgeons were prompt and informative. When the unfortunate time came, I was surrounded by people I had come to know over the years who loved and supported me and my pet. Calista Animal has great facilities and knowledgeable staff, Im glad they were there during a difficult time.

I have taken all of my animals to be treated at Calista Animal Hospital over the past five years and the service I receive has continued to be outstanding! Dr. Calista and her staff have always been extremely attentive, kind, and considerate. They have gone above and beyond for the needs of my pets and I couldn’t be more grateful.

I highly recommend Dr. Calista and her staff to anyone who is looking for someone they can trust with their beloved pets.

As a former employee of 6 years at Calista Animal Hospital and a current veterinary student, I can promise you that Dr. Calista has never treated her employees badly. Everything I know is because she was patient and took the time to teach me. I applied to the clinic in 2008 because I was so impressed with the quality of care my pets received and it was the best decision I ever made. Majority of the negative reviews are usually from disgruntled employees that strayed from the philosophy of the practice which, in a nutshell, is to always put the patient and their owners first.

If you want high quality care and excellent knowledge, this is the place to go.

Same story as several others here. Extremely poor customer service to the point it endangers the pet's heath.

The first several visits were fine but the current issue is a nightmare. They made a diagnosis of bladder infection with no tests and no information that makes sense to us. The took an x-ray to see if somehow our dog ate something bad for it (i.e. a bone) on Wednesday and told us they would have the results in 24-48 hours. Now it is tuesday and still no results from the xray and the dog is not much better. They keep putting us off saying they should have the results soon.

They have lost two vets in the last 4 months. That tells me something.

Time for a new practice with a lower turn over rate and better customer service.

I am completely disappointed i...

I am completely disappointed in Calista Animal Hospital. I had an appointment on 12/31/13 at 2:00 pm to bring my cat in for a shot of Convenia for a flare up of his FCV with a side effect of a bloody sore on his nose. After waiting half an hour past my appointment time, they came and took him out back (which they usually do, and it always makes me wonder if he's even receiving any attention or treatment or if I'm being charged for nothing). They brought him back to me 15 mins later and told me the clinic had run out of Convenia. I asked if there was an alternative antibiotic, like liquid or pills and was told there wasn't. The young man helping me made another appointment for 01/04/14 at 10:30 am for the shot as they expected their supply in by then. He said the nose sore was nothing to worry about and was a case of too much sneezing. He apologized and said I wouldn't be charged for this visit but after the shot had been given at the next appointment, I would pay for the exam and the shot together. That seemed reasonable. When I went back for the shot at the appointed time, I was told it couldn't be given because no vets were there to examine the cat and the cat hadn't been examined in a year. I explained that the cat had just been examined four days ago (which should have been in their notes) and I asked if the young man could be contacted for confirmation. The young woman went out back for 15 mins. When she came back out, she said the cat hadn't been examined the other day when I had been in. She couldn't offer any explanation as to why he was taken away from me and taken out back then. She avoided my question about whether she had contacted the young man by simply saying the cat couldn't be examined because it was Saturday and the vet wasn't there, so the shot couldn't be given. Meanwhile, the cat suffered for days longer than he should have while waiting to come back for the shot and he still wasn't getting it this time either! I left a detailed complaint on their 'contact us' site, including my phone number and email address, and got confirmation it had been submitted with a message saying they would contact me if I had asked a question. I hadn't asked a question, but you would think they would care enough to at least explain the mix-up and/or apologize for the whole mess. I never heard a word back. I suspect they get too many complaints to deal with.

Too busy to care

I took my dog there twice and they seemed too busy to be able to do anything. I took him back only because I couldn't get him in to another vet because they don't accept walk ins. they never called me with the results of bloodwork, most likely because it was never done. My dog is still sick with no explaination. Now I have to pay for the emergency vet. I think these people get kickbacks from the emergency vet for making people have to take pets there because they are unwilling or unable to help.

Overall

The service in the waiting room is very slow. We had a cat with a urinary problem and Calista was unable to help what-so-ever. They took many tests and we even had our cat stay overnight more than once. We spent so much money trying to get a simple urinary tract infection under control and everything Calista had done or had us do never seemed to work. Our cat ended up dying due to his urinary tract infection. Do not trust the lives of your pets to these people. Looking back our dogs both had gotten spayed at Calista and when we got them back it looked as if a child did their stitches. I can't stress enough that these people are not to be trusted and sadly it took the death of one of our family members for us to realize it.

There are many options in Las Cruces for pet care, do not let someone convince you this is the best vet in the city. It used to be, it's not anymore. The high turnover in employees indicates the majority of the staff are inexperienced and/or disgruntled. The wait time for scheduled appointments is inexcusable. The diagnostics are haphazard. The care is questionable. It's not worth the risk when there are other choices in the area.

I believe that I got extremely poor care here when my dog was diagnosed with a brain or spina lesion when I took him in iwth seizures. Instead of referring me for aggressive diagnostic tools when I asked for a service they don't provide (MRI), I was given palliative care. It wasn't until I was there discussing euthanasia and cremation that Dr. Bradbury told me of a neurologist in my own locale of El Paso. I had an appointment the next day and a vestibular tumor was diagnosed and an MRI scheduled. Dri, Brandbury had been given referral information to give to me as compiled by a staff member, but he chose not to advise me of options. Some of us have money and would spend it, especially when ASKING for MRIs. He knew Calista didn't have the capabilities to care for my dog, but he also did't just say that, offer the information for my review and offer to make the referral as you can't just walk into specialty vet care anymore than you can human care. Brain cancer generally has a poor prognosis under the best of conditions, but I feel that Calista did not give me options because the vet concluded for himself that most won't spend the money. Some won't, but I would.

If you have other options, take your beloved pet there. My sister, who has gone to Calista for years, had to tell one of the staff that Calista would lose their business as well if Dr. Calista didn't call to talk with me. It was only then that she, the owner of the business, made that call. She apoloized but the junior vet didn't. He had allowed her to think that he had spoken to me and all was fine. It wasn't, it isn't, and it won't be.

Dr. Calista has been our vet for 15 years. I've been to other vet clinics in Las Cruces; but none of them came anywhere close with their quality of service. In addition to providing efficient exams and treatment, Dr. Calista treats each pet with lots of TLC. It's obvious that her practice is more than "just a business". She and her staff truly care about the pets they treats and their owners. One last comment ... medical care (whether for people or pets) can be expensive; but I've always found Dr. Calista's prices to be fair and reasonable.
