BEWARE!! we are never going back. I posted the following on my FB account: It is sad that even though I pay my tuition my opinion and for that matter my daughter is nothing to this academy. She has been a student there for 3 years and loved the last two.. When a right hand "woman" to the owner dismisses 9 little girls getting ready to go out and dance and perform their little hearts out.. And only acknowledges 2 premiere girls (competition team)at how well they will do (granted I understand they were tired and did a bunch of numbers) BUT as a teacher, after reassuring YOUR students in a group, look to the other students watching, and reassure them.. Don't turn to me and the other back stage mom telling us not to gossip and give the excuse that you don't know the other little girls.. YOU ARE A TEACHER!! They are 5 and 6 year old little girls who still require or look for the simplest of things.. a "hey ya'll are gonna rock" would have been so easy (and without being told something)... But instead a catty u-turn from me and a high five to the our girl's was given.. Tsk what a shame!!! I thought the experience of 9 parents having to spray paint our little girls shoes or to buy some new shoes to accommodate "TWO" premiere girls was the line.. I guess not..And the excuse of "well it looks better on stage" is ridiculous. There were at least 5 other dances that had tan tights with black jazz or tap shoes.. Stop giving excuses and give prerequisite, so this situation will not come up again... Or Perhaps for future reference the competition team should have their own level class. Oh and I would say "we" but I don't want to speak for the other moms complaining this year. So if you are just beginning w/ this academy and plan on staying there, keep in mind what may happen if your child is not on the competition team but in a class with a competition team child. Oh and the to staff that sent me a private message telling me that FB wasn't the correct avenue to display my frustration or anger, I guess a review on the yellow pages is better. Thanks :-)

I bring in my 5 year old niece to her pre III ballet class and I really like this academy they have so much fun and I like how my sister is giving her the type of lifestyle that she needs to be productive in her life. The staff and instructors in the academy are wonderful. They are nice and smart people. This is definitely by far the best dance academy to bring your child in.

BEST STUDIO IN HELOTES/SAN ANTONIO

My kids have been going since it opened and the studio is the best around . I know from experience been to 3 other studios and they dont even scatch the surface. Would mention the other studios but that would be unethical , but take it for what it's worth it's the greatest family owned business around !!!!

I would never recommend this dance academy. They may greet you with a smile, but it is artificial at best. This dance academy is known to get the most money out of its patrons with the least amount of effort on their part.

Halfway through the school year they surprised everyone by demanding more money for monthly tuition. Deliberately waiting until after each family had made their significant financial commitments toward the end of the year recital, they intentionally placed all of their patrons in a lose/lose situation. Our only two options at this point were to pay the new higher fees each month, or loose all the money that we put into the recital as they refuse to give refunds for ANY reason.

Another irritating issue is with their method of accepting payments. The owner stoutly refuses to update their payment system to include credit/debit cards. Instead they continue to insist that all payments be made by check, or cash only, even though they know this to be an inconvenience to many of the families.

In short their customer service is superficial at best and you and your daughter would be better treated at another dance facility.

Love of dance is the most important teaching tool.

We moved here from Houston about 3 years ago, I searched for a dance school that had a similar philosophy as our school in Houston did (which has been in business of well over 30 years now) which was the most important thing to teach your students is the love of dance. At our school here there was no uniform requirements, except no street shoes in the classrooms, and clothes needed to be fitted enough for the teacher to work with the student on body placement and movement. In some classes like oh hiphop, and jazz street clothes are more than acceptable clothing. Chrissy's has a similar philosophy and dress code as we had in Houston. It was the right fit for my daughter, she is not the ballerina skin and bones body type, and never will be, but that is not important here. My daughter has loved her teachers she has had at this school, 2 of those years being with the owner as one of her teachers. This year my daughter's ballet instructor danced with a professional dance company and there are rules in the classroom. But these people also understand that children of different ages 1 understand and only have a certain attention span, and 2 that all children need a bit of fun and don't always respond well to exceptionally strict rules. They also understand that children need the chance to express themselves, and uniforms do not allow for that expression. Chrissy's is a newer school there have been some bumps in how well things have been run, but it is improving, just because you have a different philosophy of how a school should be run, and have been there once, I am not sure that you have given the school a chance to give it such a poor rating.

Crissy's Dance Academy

Professionalism is not determined by attire, or particular hair do's. Rather, it has to do with, excellent instruction, student discipline and determination, and a dance friendly environment.

when i visited it seemed that instruction was not taken very seriously. i saw dance students in street wear, hair down. no uniform what so ever. i think in order to make it seem more professional they should require some sort of uniform and a set of studio rules.
