My 11-year-old SUV is running like new, Thanks to Roberts Auto Repair.

I was considering trading my SUV because of a number of issues. But I really like it and don't want anything different so I took it to Roberts to have them check it out.

They explained that there was not anything seriously wrong with the vehicle but that it had 160,000 miles on it and could benefit from performing all the usual maintenance plus new spark plugs. I had them do all the fluids, check brakes, new titanium spark plugs, put on new tires, balance and check the alignment. In addition they repaired an inoperable passenger window that has just recently quit working. The reason that prompted me to go was a check engine light that was addressed by changing a part on the air intake. This had been confirmed by another on-board diagnostic check by another repairman.

They had my car back to me the next day and it literally runs like new. I can't believe the difference, smooth, quiet with good acceleration and braking. The window works perfectly. They offered to do the next oil change free when it is due.

I had heard Roberts has a good reputation from several friends

In my experience, they were fair, conservative in their recommendations and reasonably priced. In addition they worked quickly, keeping my car only overnight while waiting on a part.

Auto repair costs money just like everything else of value. I was not looking for a cheap discount fly-by-night place, I was looking for a reliable repair shop I could trust. These guys were fair and honest, just like their motto.

I took my Mustang in for a break job and they did it at a fair price. Soon after, I started getting a vibration so I took it back. They said it was a tire problem. I took the car to the tire shop and they said the tires were fine. After a month of back-and-forth I took the car to the Ford Service Center. Their service department said the brakes were shot. So, my father-in-law and I put on new pads and rotors and all is well.

During the same time frame, my wife's Altima need a new catalytic converter so I took it to Robert's as well (I had yet to figure out they had messed up my break job). They repaired it for about $1000. Fifteen months later, the Altima's "check-engine" light comes on. We take it to the dealer and they point out all kinds of things Roberts did wrong that has caused the exhaust system to fail. Robert's failed to properly install the part (was supposed to be a floating attachment, Robert's did a fixed attachment), the Oxygen sensor was bent, and there were no heat shields installed as there should have been.

I have contacted Robert's through the BBB and they agree to my initial request for compensation for the catalytic converter IF I supplied the core. Anyone who works in this industry knows that when a part is repaired, the core is sent back. That is what Nissan did...if they did not I would have been charged a core fee. The Nissan Service manager offered to speak to Robert's and explain what they did wrong but Robert's has declined to go that route.

In a nutshell: two different cars, two different repairs. Both had to be redone. The redo of the breaks cost $250 and the Altima repair cost another $1500.
