Saltgrass Steakhouse on 59 hwy & FM1960 is a nice, comfortable restaurant. Indoors is Texas cattle & oil baron theme with wall murals, various country items mounted on the wall, lots of wood trim, wood slat ceilings, etc... . It is a nice family restaurant and well designed for small groups or large. Very comfortable surroundings. Parking is a breeze and it's easy to find a space.
Pricing is in the Upper-Mid range. Entrees range from $12-$25 with average items being in the $16-$18 range. They have the full menu including; seafood, steaks, chicken, ribs and lots of other items. Most come with your choice of side item, which are normally very generous. The loaded mashed potatoes are an excellent choice, but so is the baked sweet potato or their version of upscale Mac-n-Cheese.
You can order from a list of optional add-ons to your steak; mushrooms, grilled crab meat & seafood, blue cheese sauce or one of many other options.
When you first arrive, they bring out the fresh baked bread with honey butter. That is a nice start. You'll want more and they keep bringing it. Order the raspberry tea for something different. It is served from a bottle and is lightly flavored. Add two packs of equal and it really brings out the flavor. For appetizer, the Crab Cakes can't be beat. I've only eaten better crab cakes on a few occasions, but these are some of the best still. The spinach & artichoke dip is OK if you're hungry, but nothing to get excited about. Forget the onion straws unless you just like a mound of semi-greasy onion straws (uughh!)
Most meals come with choice of salad or soup. The Caesar salad is well made with nice flavor. The potato soup or steak vegetable soup were also very good choices. You will be starting to get full after the bread, one appetizer (split 4-ways) and salad. Then your entree comes.
I've ordered the Two Shrimp dinner, which in my case was fried shrimp and coconut shrimp with baked sweet potato. The coconut shrimp sauce is pineapple & jalapeno. Without the sauce, the shrimp would be relatively flavorless. It's still a good meal, but a little on the bland side for me. The country fried steaks are huge and are nicely made. Ordered with loaded mashed potatoes and you have a hearty meal. My wife ordered the Prime Rib with an Oscar add-on (mixture of grilled crab & seafood). She ordered hers with the steak fries. Don't do that. That's one side dish that is just plain and really needs some help.
The wait staff is incredible. Meals are served quickly and they make sure your experience is wonderful. Aaron and Courtney were a terrific team. They worked together really well. My family has eaten at Saltgrass several times and we will be back. The prices are just slightly on the high side, but no worse than Outback or Red Lobster or any other upper-med priced restaurant.
You will leave full... or else it's pretty much your own fault because the portions are generous.
This Saltgrass is definitely recommended.
