Peace Montessori has been a great choice for our child. He started with 6-8 and is about to move up to the upper elementary. He loves the school, and is still enthusiastic about learning. He regularly comes home to wants to show us what he did in class. His teachers have been great in making sure we know what is going on with him in class, both the good and issues that need to be addressed.

My son, now in fifth grade, attended Peace Montessori years ago. At the time, we had nothing but positive things to say about the school and teachers. The academic foundation that Peace Montessori offered him has helped him immensely in his young academic career. His favorite teacher was Ms. Anita, and each time we see her either at school or around town, she still greets him with warmth!

Now, years later, my daughter is at Peace Montessori. My confidence and positive experience with the school has surpassed my original experience. My daughter started in the Toddler House; Ms. Dona and Ms. Amy treated her with kindness, respect and were wonderful role models for her each day. I knew everyday that she was in their care that she was would be treated kindly, and valued as a human being.

My daughter has now moved up to Ms. Susan and Ms. Karen’s classroom, the same classroom (and teachers) that once taught my son. I believe it is a true tribute to the school and director, Ms. Sharon, that she has maintained the consistency of her staff for so many years. I have seen no turnover in teachers which is amazing.

Without a doubt, Peace Montessori is a gem of a school. The education is excellent but it is the people that truly make it special.

Since joining Peace Montessori back in February 2011, we have seen constant and dramatic improvement in both our son’s social and academic skills. He is now five years old and missed the cut off for kindergarten due to his September birthday. We have a daughter that is in first grade and he loves to read her books and do her math homework. We can only attribute these great achievements due to the teachings and philosophy of Peace Montessori.

He's always so excited to come home and let us know what he has learned today in his learning plan. Whether it be a new continent and the countries that are in it to new math equations from greater than or less than and knowing the difference.

In addition to the daily curriculum, Peace Montessori also offers specialty classes as part of their curriculum like yoga and Spanish for example. We would highly recommend Peace Montessori to anyone who is considering any other preschool or daycare. We cannot be more proud of our son and how well he is doing!!

Sincerely,

The Horvath’s - Very Proud Parents

Our 3-year-old absolutely loves Peace Montessori. He is eager to go to school every morning and learns so much while he's there. They promote child-led learning, so when he (or other children) shows an interest in a topic or activity, the teachers are happy to facilitate. He thrives in a Montessori setting, and this is evident in how he is at home as well. We highly recommend this school!

We and our 3 year old just love peace montessori. We were impressed with our first visit to the school when I saw the current students very polite and even though they were 3-4 years old, they came and took our 3 year old along with them to play/eat without being asked by the teacher. I always believe that we need to give space to our kids to learn by themselves what is right and good. Also we need to nurture their creativity by letting them follow their instincts. Peace montessory supports this very well and their way of teaching is unique and outstanding. Since my daughter started going to the peace montessori, we can see a huge improvement in her knowledge, nature, creativity and behavior. Within 2-3 days of school our daughter was looking forward to the next day of school even though she was very shy person! She is sad when she has a day off even though we try to spent a good amount of time with her at home. We are very thankful to Ms Susan and Ms Karen for their great effort on development of our daughter. As we are not that creative, we were worried about our daughters but the addition of art camp is like a gift, Louise is a very great teacher. Now our daughter knows a lot more about art and she is a lot more creative. Our second daughter who is 1 year old, will join her sister once she is old enough. I would recommend them to every parent.

We never found our kid not being properly taken care of. We are not sure how someone can put negative review about them.

Peace Montessori is simply an amazing school! We've been a part of the school for over 3 years and plan to stay as long as we can. This was our first preschool experience and the teachers were nothing but supportive and reassuring. Their patience is endless and their expertise in the Montessori method is exceptional. Our son has completely blossomed during his time there. Every staff member is kind and readily available to help out and answer questions. Each classroom has excellent quality materials for the children to learn everything from math, geography, science, language and so much more. Our son just loves his school and his teachers! The staff have created a very warm, welcoming environment for all of the students and families. We recommend Peace at every chance we get. My husband and I really cannot say enough good things about Peace Montessori!

My heart has been captured by the living aspect of the school, both the educators and the children themselves. There is a palatable heart at Peace Montessori. My child is not only cared for there, but he is known there. The latter is a much higher level of commitment to him and his development not only academically but emotionally as well. The teachers provide a rich variety of educational opportunities. The children provide a community of acceptance and encouragement for one another. We have been very grateful for Peace Montessori during this season of my son's education. Written as a happy mother of a second grade boy.

What an amazing place full of nurturing teachers, administration and students. Our two children (ages 6 and 10) finished out their school year at Peace Montessori after moving here from Los Angeles in March. What could've been a tough transition was made heaps easier by the loving attention my children received (from everyone, even the students) from day one. My children absolutely love it here. They come home not only talking about their new friends, but about all of the wonderful things they are learning. The school provides an incredibly safe and academically challenging environment. When the children are not in the classroom, they are learning out in the field on amazing field trips. My children's personalities are so different from one another, and the teachers deftly handle both of them beautifully. Communication is excellent and parent involvement is good. The Montessori philosophy is fantastic, but so many schools get it wrong. I visited more than a few Montessori schools in the area, and I am so happy to have found this gem that stood out above all the rest. Highly recommend!

Peace Montessori is an excepti...

Peace Montessori is an exceptional school! We put our older son through the 3-5-yr old program & he is now flourishing in 1st grade. When he entered Kindergarten right out of Peace, he was reading 2 grade levels above his peers, & his understanding of math & science concepts far surpassed his public school classmates. Not only did he start elem. school w/ a leg up in academics b/c of the fantastic start he got in preschool at Peace, he also displayed superior self-control & a consistent ability to follow directions & be a positive role model for others. Our younger son is currently in his 2nd year at Peace in the 3-5-yr old program, also having an absolutely wonderful experience! The talented teachers @ Peace have used their nurturing instincts, kind hearts, & deep understanding of Montessori education to help guide each of our children to develop his own intrinsic motivation for learning, & a sense of personal responsibility & self-sufficiency that we were amazed to watch evolve. The child-centered education our boys have experienced at Peace has taught them the true joy of learning! Peace is an authentic Montessori preschool, not a typical play-based program. The deliberate Montessori materials they have encourage the kids to practice such skills as careful observation, hand strength, letter shapes, & counting. All the “works” the kids do build sequentially & are self-correcting, so the kids can often work independently of the teachers & learn to problem-solve on their own. This has benefited our younger son a lot b/c he tends to get easily frustrated w/ even the simplest things, but the frequency & intensity of his impatient outbursts has decreased dramatically & incrementally over the last year & ½ that he's been at Peace. The patience his teachers have shown him, along w/ the problem-solving skills he's picked up during free work time, have given him the tools he needs to function more calmly & confidently throughout his daily life. Putting both our kids at Peace for preschool was the best decision we ever made!!

After touring several Montesso...

After touring several Montessori schools in the Durham and Raleigh areas, my husband and I enrolled our 20-month-old daughter in the Toddler Room at Peace Montessori. From the first time we met Ms. D and Ms. A we knew this was the perfect fit for our daughter. Since she had never been in a day care setting or away from us for an extended period of time, I was afraid she would have a hard time transitioning to the environment; however because the teachers were so knowledgeable and caring, she was comfortable within the first week. The teachers were patient and encouraging not only to her, but to us as well. I couldn't believe the growth in her communication skills and the confidence she had in herself. She was excited to go to school everyday and was always proud to show us her works. We even enrolled her in the 4 weeks of camps that Peace offered during the summer. She loved going to these as well. While at Peace she was guided to learn in a peaceful and caring environment and blossomed during her time there. We can't say enough about how happy we were to be able to give our daughter the opportunity to attend a school whose entire staff cares so passionately about the children and their well-being.

confident, happy students "graduate" from Peace

My son is at Peace Montessori now, it's his second year and he will be going there next year as well. Our whole family is very pleased with how our child has flourished since attending this preschool. Something noteworthy that sticks out to me is how many families have returning students, where 2 or 3 siblings had attended before, or planned to attend eventually. Everyone loves it, most kids stay all their preschool years, and all their siblings do too! The learning environment at Peace is ample yet cozy - big enough for the volume of kids, but not too big so as to be impersonal or imposing. The teachers are very loving & patient with the kids; they teach and reinforce good social skills among their diverse group of students, modeling sharing & responsibility skills, and they maintain a child-centered curriculum in order to allow each child to discover his or her own talents, academic or otherwise, along with guiding them towards working on strengthening the skills where they are weaker. The parents at Peace, as a group, are pretty friendly, organized, & involved, vis-à-vis parent participation/volunteerism.

We have really been happy with the transition plan we worked out regarding my 1st son's attendance at Peace, whereby we planned a three-year enrollment where he would go 2 days, 3 days, then 5 days a week for his 3 years at Peace for preschool, then finally he'd be off to Kindergarten for 5 FULL days a week. So he attends school a little more each year till he's used to the process.

Overall, I would highly recommend Peace Montessori for the preschool years and even beyond if that's the small elementary setting you're looking for - the elementary kids seem really happy & engaged. And the preschool students just look like they love learning & having fun, it's really neat.

PEACE HAS BEEN A TRUE BLESSING FOR OUR FAMILY

Our family has been enrolled at Peace since 2006 and we have been more than happy with each year we have attended! The environment is beautiful and supportive to both children and parents, the teacher well educated, kind and loving and the director always willing to listen. The scathing review on this site infuriates me as I would NEVER put my child in such an environment as this family described. I witnessed the reviewer outside of the school numerous times chatting with parents while his son ran up and down the sidewalk during dismissal unsupervised. I feel strongly that these parents have used Peace as a scapegoat for their own mistakes and am saddened that his reviews may deter other families from experiencing this beautiful school. Interested parents, please take the time to read all the reviews and visit Peace before deciding to take this false review as any indication of how Peace Montessori is run.

Both of my children are ahead of the game as they approach the school age years, both intellectually as well as emotionally, they have a great understanding of what it takes to be an honest and good person/friend and a love of learning that only a strong Montessori Environment can nurture. Thank you Peace for all you do for us!!!!

Peace Montessori is highly recommended

My wife and I have had our twin boys at Peace for 3 years now. The learning and growth we have seen in them has been a truly positive experience.

Peace is a school committed to the self-directed learning philosophy of Montessori. As a result our children have grown into very confident 5 year-olds, and much of that credit goes to the social skills and love of learning that they have developed during their time at Peace.

Peace offers a diversity that we feel will serve our children well, as they are exposed to other children with different ethnic backgrounds, different family makeups, and different ages -- differences that they will come in contact with as older children and adults.

When our boys leave for public school at the end of the year, we will be enrolling our daughter so she can begin her own experience as a two year-old.

I highly recommend you visit Peace for a visit as you are checking out educational opportunities for your children.

I've had kids at Peace since it opened in 2003

That should say it all... why would anyone stay at preschool they were unhappy with? It was a wonderful start for 4 of my 5 children.. and the only reason the fifth one didn't go there is because it wasn't open when he was a preschooler. My kids were (and are) always safe and happy there. The well-trained staff are caring individuals, and they can meet the needs of all sort of students, from the totally typical to highly gifted to kids with mild physical or developmental disabilities. Peace students learn to become organized, courteous, self-regulating and independent . In my experience, kids from Peace also transition well to public and parochial schools.

Outstanding School

Our oldest son has been a student at Peace for almost three years now and our youngest son just started in the toddler room a few months ago. I cannot say enough good things about this school, its teachers and the director. Words cannot describe the growth that we have seen in our children since they have been in attendance at this school. The Montessori philosphies in practice at Peace include the theory of "following the child" along with a huge emphasis placed on respect.

The teachers at Peace go above and beyond to ensure a safe, nurturing and challenging learning environment. We have had the pleasure of watching our once timid, shy child blossom into a confident, respectful, well mannered young man. We are so grateful for all that this wonderful school has done for both of our children and we feel truly blessed to have been a part of this school for almost three years.

I would highly recommend this school to parents who are looking for a top notch preschool education.
