Overall

I have been taking my children to Valley of the Sun Pediatrics for a very long time and very honestly have been very pleased with their services until now. My children are in a divorced family and at times there can be disagreements regarding the care of our children. I phoned the office regarding my oldest daughter getting her vaccinations updated and their father was taking them in to get them done. I asked that they note in their files that I do not want her or my youngest daughter to get an HPV shot. They were very nice about it and said they would note it on the file. I followed up my request with an email and felt good about my conversations with them. I received a call on 10/27/15 telling me that they could not stop the HPV shot if my ex husband wanted to get the shot for my daughter. I told them that was absolutely wrong and they need to honor my wishes and let me and their father work this out and that they do not have to provide this shot if one of us do not agree with it. They stated that they could do nothing about it and I in return stated that my reason for the email and call was due to legally covering myself and my daughters health and that if something should happen to her I would take legal action. The conversation ended on a good note, however I still did not feel like they would honor my wishes regarding this shot. The next day on 10/28 I received a call that they were canceling my daughters as patients! I was in absolute shock and greatly offended that this doctors office could be so incredibly cold and uncaring regarding our families situation. When I called I was told that I said something offensive in the phone call and that was why. I asked what was offensive about protecting my child and my parental rights and that the lady I spoke with gave me no indication that I had done or said something so wrong that they would be canceling us. Additionally, I can not believe that we are the only family in this world that has disagreements about medical care.

My family deserves an apology for their actions and lack of customer service and care. They greatly misunderstood the situation and could have spent more time with myself and my ex husband and known that neither one of us had any intentions of having a legal issue, but both of us just wanted assurance that they respected each others wishes. Let us figure it out and you as our doctor refrain from the issue until we do. Unacceptable customer service.

I love this practice! I have gone here with my girls since they were born. I think they give excellent care, doctors, nurse practitioners, and support staff. I have always been treated with care, respect, and honesty and so have my children at this practice.

Seriously

First visit took 3 hours, then my 4 yr old gets his boosters. 1 nurse gave 4 shots...really now one is infected because she jabbed him so hard & they charged me a copay to look at it! Shouldn't thus be a follow up??? I am so mad. Here I am waiting again!! Looking for a new Dr while we wait I guess.

Great office, friendly staff! Dr. Mody, Dr Hineman and nurse Janet have been very helpful through all of our appointments, well or sick. The triage staff is also very helpful on the phone with questions. I feel like they truly care about my family and our needs. We love the way the office is set up with separate well and sick waiting areas and it is very kid and teen friendly!

I think this practice is great...

This practice has been my families home for almost 5 years and have been very thankful to have found Dr Hineman and this practice. She has correctly identified problems that other doctors have overlooked. I have also liked talking with her front office staff. My son feels so comfortable here as a teenager and more importantly she takes her time with each visit so you don't feel rushed. I called last weekend about a question and she called us back within 10minutes. I also have liked scheduling some sports physicals for Saturday morning so my children don't always have to miss school. Highly recommend!

Dr. Hineman is wonderful. But after having a concern following an appointment with Dr. Mody, I called to speak with Dr. Hineman (the Dr I have taken my kids to for the past 10 years) and the office manager "Ed" said she was "far too busy to deal with matters like this". I said I needed to speak with Dr. Hineman before coming into the office again and he immediately said he would cancel all further appointments (and he did) and then hung up. I did not scream or swear or abuse this manager in any way and I find this completely unacceptable & just plain rude. I don't think it's too much to ask to have a phone conversation with the doctor I trust once in the 10 years I've been coming to see her. I am shocked at how quick this RUDE manager was at my request. Sadly, Dr. Hineman will never even know why my children no longer go to her practice. Business must be really good to throw away patients so easily.

This is a great practice. I have been taking my kids to see Dr. Hineman and Friends for 2 years and I could not imagine going anywhere else. The staff is great! The office is great. I used to go to another office in the NW valley. It was a larger practice but I was never happy with the encounters it seemed that they would just pick the quickest/easiest diagnoses and move on. At any rate, the doctors and staff at Valley of the Sun take the time to figure out what is really going on and follow up to make sure my kids are getting better.

Overall

I have been taking my children to this office for almost 3 years now. The office is beautiful and Dr. Hineman is a very sweet lady....but that's as far as it goes. They are quick to charge you for any little thing. My son in the winter time usually gets sick and needs breathing treatments, every time I go in they charge a fee for showing me how to administer the treatment(which isn't covered by insurance and I am fully aware how to give them). The Dr is NEVER on time...I usually wait 30-45 minutes with sick screaming kids and than just rush through the appointment but, if you are 15 minutes late they charge you an automatic $50. The staff is NOT helpful and that was the breaking point....my child was having an allergic reaction and couldn't get him in till the afternoon so I waited...when we got in there(5 hours later and a severe rash) they said they didn't put me in the schedule and "it was my fault I didn't make it clear that I wanted that appointment". They said there was nowhere they could squeeze me in until 7:30 that night! How long does it take to look at a rash and prescribe a steroid and tell me the dose to give a baby benadryl?! We are there at least 2x a month and they couldn't fix THEIR mistake and get me in? The 7:30 appointment is after hours which is DOUBLE the price....I originally called at 9;30 that morning! I really wanted to stay at this office just due to the convince and when you actually get to see Dr. Hineman shes a sweet lady but that's far and few between. I called to speak to the office manager about the issues and he was rude and immediately dismissed any problems...come to find out the manager is her father! Please save the aggravation, money, and time and find another Dr!

This office is wonderful! First off they offer Saturday visits and last week saw my daughter for an ear infection at 8:30pm. I appreciated not having to go to an Urgent Care and was able to see her doctor instead. The nurse practitioners are great, they take lots of time with you. My wife also called the office after hours and was connected to the doctor not a random nurse which was also nice. My family highly recommends this office!

Overall

My OB recommended this office and we have been very happy with it. The doctors and nurse practitioners are extremely knowledgable and were great about checking up to see how my son was doing after he was sick. I also like how they aren't pushy about antibiotics. My old doctor would prescribe way to many drugs. The front staff is very friendly and you get a person instead of a machine when you call for an appt. Yes, it is a busy office, you can tell they are a good office. I get concerned if when you go in no-one else is there. They also have late evening and Saturday appts which is nice for working families. Highly recommend!

Agree with other reviews, while I did like the providers, the billing was questionable. They do nickel and dime you for everything. They refuse to refill meds for allergies (that my kiddo had been on for over a year) at a well child check. Instead, you have to come back the next day for another appointment to get those refilled. A healthy kid with seasonal allergies is forced to be seen 5x a year for office visits to stay on Singulair. No wonder insurance costs are skyrocketing. After doing some checking around, I found this is not typical of area practices and have switched doctors.

Overall

I used to take my kids to this office. Our first visit was with Dr. Hineman and she was wonderful. After that initial visit, we saw the NP. It was very hard to see the Dr.

I feel like they have nickel and dimed my family. Everytime we took our kids there, they brought us back for a follow up appoinment a week later AND billed the insurance company for that follow up visit. Per my insurance company those follow up visits are NOT billable charges since they have already paid for the issue. I brought that up to the biller (Theresa) and she said my insurance is "crappy"! Really? Even if you felt that way, you never tell someone their insruance is "crappy" especially when we pay over $600/mo for the insurance and do not rely on government help.

They are also notorious for telling us that they will prescribe an antibiotic and will call it in to our pharmacy. When we picked up the prescription, there were 3 more medications that they have called in. I have had to deny these medications since I have 6 boxes of albuterol and 3 bottles of ear drops.

Another incident that really annoyed me was when I brought in my child to follow up after his ENT (ear, nose, throat) visit. I told the NP that we went to see the ENT the previous week and we were to follow up with the ENT in 6 months. Well, she had the medical assistant do a hearing test in their office. Why would you do a hearing test when we went to the specialist to do a series of tests and they have the results in their charts? They did it so they can bill my insurance company and collect my co-payment.

I would steer clear from this office. Their business practice is just awful.

I can’t say enough about this wonderful office. My children love Dr Hineman and Dr Mody. We enjoy seeing the friendly staff at the front desk and love not feeling rushed when we go to the doctor’s office anymore. We have had a good experience with the billing department when we had a question about our insurance. Most of all the providers at this office don’t miss anything that other offices have. They are caring and listen to our concerns. Our children don’t cry anymore when they know we are going to the doctors office. We highly recommend Valley of the sun pediatrics!

Overall

The Doctors and the Staff at this Valley of the Sun are outstanding in every way. I had been taking my kids to another practice for a few years but the experience was clumsy. From making an appointment, to seeing the doctor (who did seem to really care), to calling after hours if I had a concern. All the interactions were uncomfortable. Then we transferred to Valley of the Sun. The doctors take the time to understand what is going on, the staff is caring and gentle with my kids, the front office is always pleasant and greets you with a smile. Now my kids don't mind if they need to see the doctor.

Overall

This place is terrible. An absolute sham. This is definitely the most convenient place for me and my kids but I would drive another 100 miles to get them better care.

Go in for something routine and they will just process it along and collect the claim. Go in for a seemingly simple/routine procedure and they will order a litany of tests and use any number of scare tactics they can to get you to subject your child to unwanted and unneeded pain and misery, all for the purpose of collecting a buck. They don't see your children, they see walking dollar signs. Not to mention the fees. 1st missed appointment 50 bucks. They charge an extra seen on Saturday fee and when they try to schedule appointments the first day they always recommend, without fail, is a Saturday. They have ridiculous late fees as well.

Had one child treated (unnecessarily of course because they painted some terrible picture of "what could be wrong". It was an invasive procedure on what was nearly a newborn baby) two months ago. Well they filed the claim, and after processing we finally received the bill last week. This week they say "Pay the bill by Wednesday or there will be a late fee". Not to mention that nearly every pediatrics site on the internet and even a second opinion said basically "this is very common and is not a cause for concern if it does not last longer than a week". Not to them. They basically tortured a newborn for money.

They also try to direct any outside examinations to specific partner practices and laboratories. I am sorry, last I checked it was my insurance and I can decide where I want my children to be cared for. The doctors and nurses are very nice and make you feel like they care but I am sure people though Bernie Madoff was a great guy when they gave him their life savings too. If you care for your child's well being find a place that values the children over the money. I drive an extra 15 minutes to be seen at a different practice and I would advise you do as well.
