Dr. Lewis Rocks!

Dr. Lewis was so awesome. He listened to my concerns, talked to me like a friend not just another patient. He was very gentle and quick. The in ceiling tvs aren't even needed. Dr. Lewis was enough to get me through my work.

Oral Cancer Screening
We will also do an evaluation of your gum health and an oral cancer screening so that we can properly diagnose and prevent any periodontal disease, gingivitis, or other soft tissue conditions. We recommend getting digital x-rays of your teeth regularly, as this is one of the best ways to catch issues before they become major problems. The dentist will check your teeth, x-rays, and soft tissues to make sure everything is in great shape and give recommendations specific to you.

Teeth Cleaning

Our goal is to help you get to the point where your mouth is so healthy that the only reason you need to come in is for your regular dental cleanings and checkups. Whether you are wanting to get out of pain, improve your overall health, or improve your smile, we are here for you.
Fluoride Treatment
After the initial visit, it is important for your child to come in for regular 6 month cleanings and checkups and to receive help with cavity prevention such as sealants and fluoride. Although in most cases the primary dentition (baby teeth) will be replaced with permanent teeth, keeping this first set of teeth healthy plays an important role in helping the jaw develop properly and preserving space for the permanent teeth – not to mention it helps for your child to chew and be pain-free!
Dental Sealants
Sealants – We recommend placing sealants on the deep pits and grooves of permanent teeth very soon after they erupt in the mouth. A sealant is a tooth-colored coating that protects food from getting stuck in those deep, hard-to-clean grooves, and therefore helps prevent cavities. These are especially recommended for children!

Fillings
Resin Composite
When caught early, small to moderate sized cavities can be cleaned out and replaced with a filling. Tooth-colored filling material (composite resin) has many benefits, including its ability to bond to the tooth and its ability to be used with conservative tooth preparation (less drilling). With newer filling materials, many times you will not be able to see where the filling ends and the tooth begins. Gone are the days of dark silver fillings in your mouth!
Veneers
In dentistry, a veneer refers to a thin, tooth-colored layer of material that attaches to the visible (front) surface of a tooth and is designed to improve appearance. Most of the time a veneer is made of extremely natural-looking porcelain or ceramic material, but it can also be made with composite resin material (used in fillings). Dental veneers can drastically improve the esthetics of front teeth that are smaller, misshaped, have gaps, or are discolored.
Crowns
When a large portion of a tooth is missing due to previous fillings or significant wear, fractures, or cavities, a crown (or “cap”) is used to restore and protect the tooth. A crown will typically cover most of the tooth surface, and can be made of a variety of materials. In most situations we use all-ceramic crowns, and these crowns appear nearly identical to natural, healthy teeth.
Bridges
A bridge is used to fill a gap where there is one or more missing teeth. A porcelain/ceramic false tooth (or pontic) fills the space above the gums where there is a missing tooth, and is attached to crown-like supports that are cemented on teeth adjacent to the space. Restorative Dentistry
Restorative Dentistry involves replacing missing teeth or repairing teeth that are broken or have cavities. While cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the esthetics of your smile, restorative dentistry focuses on improving your function – the ability of your teeth to chew and hold up to the intense forces they take on in your mouth.

Root Canal Treatment
In the center of tooth roots are narrow spaces called canals, which are occupied by nerves and blood vessels. When there is trauma to a tooth, such as a large cavity or tooth fracture, this can cause inflammation and infection inside the root canal, causing temperature or chewing sensitivity, swelling, or even throbbing pain. The inflammation or infection can often be addressed by performing root canal therapy. During this process, the dentist gets the tooth numb to take away any pain, opens up the canal space, cleans it out using special instruments and cleaning solution, and fills it back up to prevent future infections.

Dentures
Dentures are custom, removable oral appliances that are used to replace missing teeth for both esthetic and functional reasons. These can be taken in and out of the mouth by the patient.

Dental Implants
In some situations a tooth may need to be extracted (removed) because it cannot be properly restored and poses a risk to your dental or overall health. This is only recommended after we have looked at all alternatives and determine the tooth has a poor long-term outlook. There are typically great solutions to replace a missing tooth such as an implant or a bridge.

Following dental school Dr. Johnson was selected to participate in a General Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City. This optional and rigorous program allowed him to work alongside some of the most respected specialists in Utah. He received additional training in implant placement and restoration, bone grafting, root canals, and complex crown and bridge treatment. After his residency he gained more experience working at offices along the Wasatch Front, but he is thrilled to have chosen to plant his roots at Jordan View Dental. When not at his own office, he also provides dental care at the Utah State Hospital in Provo.

At these regular visits your children will get their teeth cleaned and receive instructions and tips for their home care, and the parents will receive any recommendations for treatment needed such as fillings, cavity prevention, or an orthodontic consult for braces.

Teeth Whitening
If you want your natural teeth to be lighter, we recommend having custom take-home bleach trays made for your specific teeth. These trays, along with the specific low-cost whitening gel and instructions we give you, will give you the best result available to lighten your teeth and minimize post-whitening sensitivity.
