I have worked in rescue and in veterinary medicine for nearly 10 years and MACS is one of THE BEST shelters I've ever worked with. The staff is incredible, the facility is so clean and the kennels are very large for the dogs, they vet all pets before they are adopted and the adoption fees are extremely low! I adopted my dog from there and I will 100% be returning. The absolute best experience

I am greatful to them. I adopted a cat from the Capital Area Humane Society in Lansing. My cat came from this anti-cruelty shelter. My cat was brought to M.A.C.S with an injury to her left ear, her ear does not stand up like most cats do. She was passed up by many people who thought she was "ugly" because of her ear. Honestly I think the only "ugly" ones are, the person who harmed her and the people who passed her up. She is SPECIAL & UNIQUE just like any person who may have a physical life long injury. So a BIG THANK YOU TO M.A.C.S for not being "ugly" and for sending my cat to a C.A.H.S so she could find a family who thinks she is PERFECT just the way she is.

Don't take your animals here.. this place was referred to me by a friend, my first experience was ok..when I brought my animals there again, in less than a week they were put down. This is a horrible place & I am contacting the news on them. They need to be exposed.

I am a rescue and they make every effort to contact me when an animal comes in. They help our rescue with shots and spay/neuter. They have so many animals that come in and they try to find places for them to go. What are they suppose to do with the over surrenders? Blame the people that take their dogs there not the place. When someone comes there to surrender their dog/cat stop them and tell them they are cruel just dumping them. Us at rescues make efforts to find homes for these animals. If you think you have an answer let us know.

Don't believe the rumors that ignorant people are spreading. This place is the best. That is why they have been around for almost 100 years in Detroit. I needed a friend for my border collie and they helped us get the perfect match. After seeing how they went out of their way to help I decided to start volunteering for them and even fostering. Have personally fostered 2 dogs and over 300 cats/kittens over the last 7 years. I have also adopted another dog and 3 cats to add to my own family.

Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society is killing a ton of dogs and cats. According to their own shelter report last year they killed 1223 dogs. Wow...and that was just the dogs they killed, that's close to 4 a day. Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society actually kills so many animals that they have to have their own incinerator to burn all the bodies! MACS kills pregnant mom's,, nursing moms, puppies and friendly dogs. And if it's Pit Bull is doesn't have a chance

First I called to ask about a dog. Then I packed my husband and three kids in the car and drove 45 min to meet her. Then we spent 20 min in the cage playing with her. Then we filled out the application. Never was I warned that not having a fenced in yard eliminated us from the possibility of most of their dogs. Because someone with a nasty chain link fence who just lets them out - or better - keeps them out there all alone is a better situation than our loving home. Then after 3 days they said that my household with 2 professional engineers - one currently a stay at home mom in a suburb full of dogs and 3 active boys to keep her busy were not qualified to take a stray or a breed that runs. Because she might run. Any dog could run.
They devastated my family. Everyone there was so positive to our faces and as soon as we left they hide behind policies. I'm sure she's much better off in that cage with all of those other dogs barking and getting to go out once a day - if that. SHAME ON MACS

I thought they wanted to place animals in homes, I don't think so. I completed an application last Thursday for a female puppy. They told me to call Tuesday and that it takes one day to qualify. They had me calling everyday with no answer. Thursday I was told someone had filled out an application before me and she was gone. When I first filled out the application one of three puppies was pending a home. The manger said they still needed to check to see if I had a fence up, which I do, and come in to see if there was another puppy I would like. She stated she would also call me by Friday morning. She lied. I went to the shelter today (Friday) and asked for her, she was to busy to come out. I told the worker who told me it only takes a day to be approved that I wanted one of four male puppies left. I asked her why she had me call everyday on a puppy that was promised to someone else I got no answer. She promised she would have an answer for me about one of the puppies by 3:55 when she gets off work at 4:00. I told her if they don't want me to give a puppy a home don't waste my time tell me. I don't have $150.00 to throw away on a puppy which I would take home and mistreat it. She lied. She never called. If I treated people like this I'd be reprimanded or fired. I thought the idea was to find homes for the animals not turn people away!

macs are terrible at paperwork, they called us to open a fire damaged house on the east side of Eastpointe City because a cat was in the house . Our company was under contract to remodel the house but the Lender foreclosed on the owner , so our name is on the house , Teresa called us to meet with alberto to let him in to set a trap at the back door and sign our paperwork , the cat didn't go into the trap so he had me sign his paperwork to leave the trap overnight fri to sat and lock the door . A week later rep called macs to verify our claim for pymt and macs told them they never entered the house and a neighbor let the cat out , they lied to the Lender, Teresa is dodging my calls ,and will not call me back after I left several messages, they conduct bad business.

Response to person complaining about protocol

When a dog is taken into a shelter anyone can just walk in and say that a certain dog is theirs. People will try and do that so they don't have to pay a fee. When a place asks for documentation and photographs they are making sure the dog is going to the home it is supposed to go to. The person who is complaining about this should be thankful that they did that or else that dog could have gone home with anyone before the family even got there. A cell phone picture is not good enough, those could be pictures from anywhere, a computer, a picture of a picture, something downloaded from a website. I went to this place to look for a dog and they were very knowledgable about each every dog that was being kept there and were extremely helpful.

Not a very friendly place

My puppy was lost on on 12/25/09, we put flyers around the neighborhood and today we were so happy because the person that found out blue eye pitbull informed us that she had taked our puppy yesterday to the shelter on Joseph Campau. This is my seven year old's puppy, and she was so happy, well when we spoke to one of the workers she was not very nice, and not very helpful she asked to bring back a color picture and documents to get our puppy back, mind you that I took my cell phone with pictures of the puppy and we asked to see him, however they refused. We told her that our puppy is very spoil and they will find out that we are his family. What are these people doing?

They deserve a bug hug and a pat on the the back for taking of, and giving a voice to Gods creatures who would otherwise fall thru the crack's. Please pray for the animals and the people who work so hard to reach and the ones who can't be reached.
