Overall

My daughter attended camp at Bart Conner and we had a blast. The coaches were excellent, the facility is very nice and the gymnast to coach ratio was really good. She got 6 hours of practice each of the three days and learned some great new skills. The only downside was it was advertised as a camp for those who competed a minimum of level 3 last year and ages 6 and up. There were clearly campers who were younger than 6 and not a level 3 working on level 4 skills. I don't know why parents enroll their kids in a program that is clearly not for them. 18 hours of gymnastics over three days is a lot of gymnastics even for a kid like mine at level 5 who is 9 years old. Younger kids were crying, getting bored, throwing tantrums and that is all normal 4-5 year old behavior because the camp wasn't geared for them. I hope Bart Conner does a better job of screening participants for next year because we really plan to come back.

My daughter has been going to this gym off and on for a few years now. The team coaches are great. But, my daughter just started back after being out of gymnastics for over a year...So, for the first time she was put into a recreational class. When I called to set up the class, I was told to come on Tues & Thurs. But, when I got there, the class was full, and I had just called the day before. The person that I talked to wrote down my daughter's name and told us when to come. But, when I got there, the secretary was very rude about the fact that I was there and the class was full. This isn't the first time this lady has been rude to us. I would think that a gym of this caliber would hire staff that is friendly and customer service oriented. This woman does not need to be working here if she doesn't enjoy the job. Because she definitely has a bad attitude and it shows when dealing with parents. On another note, my daughter has not been in a recreational class since she was about 3 yrs old and when she went to the rec. class this week, the coach seemed very unhelpful and she was just kind of sitting there at the bars trying to figure out what to do. So, basically from what I could tell and what she said there was very little instruction or coaching going on. It seems to me that this gym should have good recreational coaches to help the kids. I'm just hoping her next class won't be as bad as the first one was.

EVERTHING YOU WANT

My daughter has been a member of Bart Conner for four years. She is 7 years young. She has had, and continues to have excellent instruction. The coaches are dedicated to the kids ! Not just mine, but all kids! I see this, Im there alot ! I have had, and continue to have lots of questions, as to why and how and what for. It seems at the drop of a hat the coaches are ready to inform me and I APPRECIATE that ! The meets at the gym are manufactured to support the kids, so that every one ( Family spectators included) have a great time ! They keep you informed about monthly events through email and always answer the phone! Thats a plus !! I recommend this gym to anyone ! ! Its..... EVERYTHING YOU WANT ! ! !

Bart Conner Gymnastics is a 5 star!

We have had our daughter in the pre-school program at Bart Conners for the past 2 yrs. She absolutely love it. The teachers are fantastic and do a great job. They have something new and challenging each week for the kids. My daughter has now moved up to kindercubbies and is really excelling fast!

One suggestion I have would be to create the capability to pay our monthly fees online at the Bart Conner website. That would be much appreciated. Keep up the great work BCG!

Great Gym

We have been coming to BCGA for over 6 years now. I can tell you the coaches and staff have been great!

To those people who claim they can't talk to coaches, then they have never asked. Any time I need to speak to a coach, I ask. Please don't complain if you aren't willing to pursue the information. I have never seen a coach flat out refuse to talk to a parent. However, the coaches are there to coach, not have a 20 minute discussion with you on how your child is doing. You wouldn't stop your child's teacher in the middle of class to discuss progress, instead, you would schedule a meeting with them. The same can be done at BCGA.

Yes, the gym is crowded sometimes, but if you pay attention, the gym is organized.

An okay experience

My child has been at BCG now for almost 2 years. The first year he was there he was scared to go into the gym and the staff was pretty good about coaxing him out and getting him to participate. There was also a male teacher who used to take the little boys separate from the little girls for a portion of the class which I think worked well and helped decrease the teacher to student ration a bit.

We signed up for another year and found that there was no real "evaluation" for moving up or retaining some of the kids in the any particular class ... you just sign up for an age group/time frame. It would help to if there was a "beginners" 3-4 year old time and a "more advanced" 3-4 year old time. I felt this year was not as organized as in the prior year.

I have also had difficulty in getting missed/canceled make up classes scheduled. I was specifically told to call or e-mail for a make up date/time yet when other students from other classes have come to my childs class, many time there have been an extraordinary number of kids for one 45 min class time. Not sure there was any "balance" of student to teacher ratio for make up classes.

Overall, the staff have been friendly enough when you are lucky enough to actually get to talk to them. I have never gotten any feedback from any staff member though on how my child is doing/grogressing.

My recommendation for anyone considering BCG would be to check it out MORE than just the one free "try it" class ... talk to some of the other parents. This facility might be just what you are looking for or maybe not.

Starting in the summer of 2010, we have split the pre-school classes into more levels. This should allow better placement of the children. We do have a student to staff ratio and rarely go over 1-5, and are usually under that. Some classes are larger, but we add staff to keep the ratio down. All our pre-school classes are only 45 minutes and we reserve the extra 10 minutes of the hour for parents to talk with the teachers, if they so desire. We also send out a weekly newsletter, via e-mail with all the personal e-mails of the directors. We encourage parents to e-mail us with any questions. We have a lot of students and the gym is busy, but we really try to keep the communication lines open as much as possible.

Overall
the gym is great!

I have had a child at the gym for 3 years, I read the review of the person who said they cancelled class all the time, I guessing they were on Saturday, because I started on Saturday, and that did happen alot. I have switched days and have not had that experience since. The secretary is not there on saturdays, I did have them prorate once for saturday. But that all aside, they are great, we are military and experienced lots of gyms, now we are moving again, and hope I can find something as great. They care about what is important for the child, they work with the child, and teaching to love gymnastics, IF they don't get something quite right, I love the way they correct them, by pointing out wht good they did do, and build their self confidence. Now tht my child is on team, that self confidence, and love of gymnastics, has taught her well. She only 6, and loves gymnastics! I thank bart conners!

Fair at best

My son has been at Bart Conner for just under 2 years now & I am going to discontinue taking him there any longer. The staff all seems fairly good, but you get no face time with them as a parent. Also, there never seems to be anyone available to answer questions or pass out info - they have a front desk but no one sits there.

They cancel class a lot & say that you may come for a make-up on a different day, but that is difficult as well. I picked class on a certain day for a reason (b/c that is what works for us) but even when I have tried to schedule a make-up they have not gotten back to me via email or phone. I find this to be unacceptable. They do not pro-rate their rates when they cancel either so you just lose out entirely.

I agree with the other review that it is very crowded in there most of the time as well. The class size is just too large. I don't think the kids get much individual attention or direction. I have seen them tell a kid what to do, watch the kid not really do it right or not really even try (lots of times being distracted by other kids since there are too many waiting to do one thing), & then just move on since they have so many other kids to get through. What are they learning from that?

Maybe it is all different with the bigger kids who can compete & stuff, but if you have little ones that you are looking for an activity for, I would recommend you try another gym or activity. We have found Bart Conner's Gymnastics Academy to be very disappointing.

During the day, we do not have a secretary at the front desk. The secretary arrives at 4:00 during the week and is there until 8:30 p.m. Both of our directors teach classes and there is 15 minute break between classes for parents to ask questions or visit with the teachers/directors about any concerns or questions they might have. We send out a weekly newsletter, via e-mail that lists all the activities going on in the gym that week and it includes the personal e-mails of the directors. Some of the classes are larger, but we keep a strict student to teacher ratio of 1-5 and many times it is less than that. The only time we cancel classes is if there is bad weather, and sometimes we are open when even the schools are closed. We do cancel once in a while on Saturday, as we host gymnastics meets 3-4 times during the year at our gym. We ask parents to make-up, but if they cannot, and they ask, we will pro-rate the next month. We are always working on improving parent communication and service.

We're Not "Serious Gymnasts"

My children LOVE going to BCG. However, I'm not a gymnast and other than a one month stint when I was 7, have no experience with gymnastics. I mainly go for the quality time and they love the activity.

If you are a serious gymnast, I wouldn't be a good person to ask about BCG. But my guess would be that you should shop around and find an academy with supportive staff/coaches. There are a few familiar faces that are probably "favorites," but as with any platform in life, you just have to find your niche.

As my children get older and decide the choice of being in gymnastics will be theirs, but for now, we just have fun running around and jumping in "the pit"

Pleased with the gym and experience

My children have been at BCGA for almost two years. They both enjoy their weekly gym time.

I would have to agree with the other comment about the coaches never talking with the parents. I have never once talked with my sons coach. I do not know what his progress is at this time. It's not that I wouldn't try to talk with the coach ... there really isn't an opportunity. The coaches come to the door briefly, and then disappear. At the end of the class, the kids are dismissed, and parents never get to talk with the coaches.

Also, there have been a HUGE problem with photos that were taken of the kids. We have waited an extrememly long to time get our photos back. BCGA said they would be in by St. Patrick's Day ... and I still haven't gotten them ... it's almost 4th of July.

I do hope that the next time photos are taken BCGA will take in account, all the problems that have occured.

The photographer did encounter problems with the number of orders. He has apologized and assured me that everyone has received their pictures. We will be using someone different next year.

Mixed feelings

My daughter has been at the gym for about a year and I have mixed feelings about whether I can recommend it. My child has moved up rapidly at the gym but it seems it has happened despite the gym, not because of it.

My first impression of the gym was that it was extremely overcrowded and when I asked the lady at the front desk about it she joked that "this is nothing" and that the gym is even more crowded usually (there were so many parents and kids in the foyer that day that you could hardly walk--this has been the case almost every time I have gone since). While it is great that they except everyone, they have constant open enrollment, which is probably contributing to the overcrowding and student turnover.

Additionally, my daughter's teachers change almost on a weekly basis, which makes it hard to monitor the progress that the student is making. Also, the coaches rarely, if ever, talk to the parents and the only time parents are given any information about how the child is doing (or even what they are doing) is when you get a paper evaluation, which is given to you by the child and not by the teacher.

I have also found that the gym is disorganized. Even when you call the phone at the gym, sometimes you get a live person and sometimes you get a weird voicemail, even during the day. When I have gotten through to a live person, I was transfered to several people before I could get an answer to even the most basic questions. Additionally, their web site has last year's information still on it.

My daughter has attended another gym before in another state, so I do have something to compare it to; it was definitely a different way of doing business there compared to here.

I don't want to sound overly critical and I hope my comments are taken by the gym as a way to improve it. But based on the past year's experience, we will be moving to another gym.

In responding to this, I would like to address a number of the issues. First, we do have many students, and it does seem chaotic. However, all the classes have a specific place to be during the hour and we do have a specific student to teacher ratio that is followed. Unfortunately, there have been a few classes, during our past year that a few teachers have been inconsistent. We try to keep on top of this, and is sounds like this person ended up in one of those classes. Most of our teachers are very consistent. We do pass out skill evaluations every 8 weeks. Parents are encouraged to e-mail the directors about any questions they might have. The directors can then set up a meeting with any of the parents. We e-mail the parents on a weekly basis about happenings in the gym and list the directors' e-mails in that newsletter. In addition, we also have a "mini-meet" or recital in December and May where any family member can come and watch routines the children have learned in class. We are always trying to improve our parent communication and have updated our skill lists and achievement levels, starting in the summer of 2010. We are continually working on ways to keep everyone better informed and feel a number of changes we have made in the summer of 2010 will improve on that!

Great Energy Outlet!

My little girl has been attending Bart Conner since the summer of 2009. She loves going to gymnastics. She knows every Wednesday is gymnastics and tell everyone all day long that she has gymnastics today. She is FULL OF ENERGY and Bart Conner gives her a way to release that energy. The staff is wonderful and really seems to enjoy teaching children.

A wonderful experience for all levels

We have just moved here about 6 months ago from NH, where 2 of my boys were competitive gymnasts. There is no comparison in the coaching level. The coaches at Bart Conner Gymnastics have been tremendous, as well as very supportive. They genuinely care about the kids and want them to strive to be their very best without putting unnecessary pressure on them. Thanks for a fantastic experience!

Looking for the best then forget the rest!

When we started our son at Bart Conners we did not know what to expect but just wanted to harness some of his unlimited energy. We have been nothing but happy ever since. Our son has been with Bart Conners for about 4 years and we have been extremely happy with the improvements he has shown. Ben & Dan have been especially helpful with helping our son to become more disciplined and focus and they have never given up on him. I highly recommend Bart Conners to anyone looking for a gymnastics home.

Best Gymnastics Gym in Norman

Our daughter is 4 years old and has been going to BCGA since she was 18 months old. She loves it! Every week she asks if it is gymnastics day. The teachers are great with the kids. It's also great excercise for the kids. They also have mini-meets for the kids to show parents and grandparents what they have learned in class and they give them a trophy. Our daughter is so proud of her trophies! Highly recommend!!
