Portland's Pampered Pets

Absolutely appalling. I brought my 20 lb dog here for a walk-in nail trim. I explained that my dog gets nervous about nail clipping, which is why I brought her in - expecting that, as a company that offers grooming services, they would place my dog on a grooming table. I was told that they would do it in the front of the establishment, evidently expected to hold my dog while an employee used the same exact pair of nail trimmers I have at home. I explained the situation, and she reluctantly agreed to bring my dog to a table. I initially heard the employee praising my dog, and not a peep coming from her. Then I heard my dog yelp loudly in pain, not an aggressive noise but one of fear and great discomfort.



The employee immediately proceeded to tell her colleague that "this is not worth $5" and then bring me my dog, saying that my dog had jerked and caused the employee to over trim a nail. When a dog jerks during a nail trimming, they pull AWAY from the clippers, they do not push their paw TOWARDS the clippers. My dog jerked and yelped in reaction to her nail being cut past the quick.



The employee then told me I should try a groomers where they can muzzle my dog. I can admit to my dog not being perfectly leash trained, and she jumps up on people she hasn't seen in a while, but my dog is NOT aggressive. Even if this had been an instance where my dog was at fault, the way in which the situation was handled and the way in which I was spoken to showed not only a complete lack of professionalism but a blatant disregard for the care of my dog.



I went back into Portland Pampered Pets after realizing my dog was still bleeding to request a paper towel or something to slow the bleeding. They said they didn't have any, and when I requested any assistance they could provide, they asked if I could just "hold her" while I drove home, as if that would aid in the slowing or prevent the blood from getting everywhere. After continuing to ask, they let me apply some Kwik Powder (stops the bleeding) to my dog's nail.



It is appalling that, given the state of the establishment itself, they would also lack in skills and professionalism. Please, please, please do not go here. I wouldn't want anyone else's dog to be traumatized.
