Eka Dance Academy

I was new to the area, and I wanted to learn how to dance, so I joined this academy because it was the closest to me. At first glance, everything comes off fine, but you start to notice things as time goes by. Somedays the floor is fine, some days its very slippery because she doesn't clean to often like she should. Almost always the class is freezing or too hot because her A/C is old, and makes the class smell. Her classes are either all guys, or no one at all. There were times I showed up and it was just 2 guys. That's typical. That's just the environment..lets talk about Eka herself.

I was her student for about 8 months, and in that time frame she has had more racial moments than you can count. She was invited to the 2017 DC Salsa congress in Oct of that year, she openly infront of EVERYONE (Even kids), screamed the N-word at the promoter in the auditorium and said she was gonna ruin his event due to an issue she had with him. (She was in the wrong to begin with..fyi) Another was on FB when she wrote a racial slur to all black and hispanics people. I can go on and on, but I'll keep it short. She comes off as polite and fun just to get you to join her dance studio so she can take your money..it's ALL about money for her. She has no loyalty to her students unless your grandfathered in...which to bring that up...I confirmed that some people dont pay while others do..not fair to those who pay.

She's good at dancing, but her English is horrible (Doesn't speak a lick of Spanish either), so her instructions are unclear and difficult. She also forgets her routines a lot, so she actually asks what was taught in the last class. Very unprofessional. She's obviously distracted with her personal life, which always affects her schedule. Nothing worst then driving to the studio to find it closed, and she didnt communicate that she would be canceling classes...which has happened one too many times.

Save your money, look at other places! Dont say I didnt warn you!

I have been taking dance classes for couple months and i absolutely love it here! The dance instructor (Eka) is fabulous. She infuses us with the love for dance. Every class is fun. People are great. Location is clean with ample free parking. Usually when we get there we see kids classes finishing up! I would recommend this dance studio for anyone! In my opinion it is the best!!!
